There are 3 stages to cirrhosis:

Childs Class A, B, and C.

A is well compensated, with no ascites, no encephalopathy and an albumin above 3..5, bilirubin less than 2.3.

B is albumin 3.0 - 3.5, bilirubin 2.3 - 2.9 and controlled encephalopathy and ascites.

C is albumin less than 3.0; bilirubin less than 2.9 and out of control encephalopathy and ascites.

For a person with decompensated (Pugh Scores of B or C) a patient can expect to need a liver transplant or death will eventually occur.

There are two main stages, compensated cirrhosis whereby the liver continues to do its job,and decompensated cirrhosis when it begins to fail.
A couple of hours reading will provide a reasonable grounding on the subject.
