Goof, my doctor told me to chew sugarless gum and eat lemon drops to stimulate saliva
Thank you.....that will provide me hours and hours of good old fashionned reading I can't WAIT to get started just by looking at the headlines :-)
Can't wait for lunch break today!
I believe the thrushmouth is caused by the interferon which drys up the saliva. Since saliva is antibacterial, this allows the bacteria to build up. Nystatin is often prescribed for this. Check out this sight for some possible solution.

Everything I read says that thrush is fungal. In several places I have read that natural Yoghurt daily is a good solution.
I would think you must be very careful to make sure you clean around those braces during tx. You obviously cannot chew gum to increase saliva. What about sugar free mints of some sort?
I went to the dentist last week too. I told him I had hep C and also told him about the dentist he had referred me too for a dental implant who told me there was no elective surgery while you had active hepatitis C. He didn't think that sounded right and called another dds who does implants. This dentist said that you could not legally refuse treatment. So anyway when and if I decide to do the implant, I will use dentist number 2.

I have to comment on the 80/80/ rule. To my knowledge there's no flexibility in when or how much interferon you shoot. My dr stressed to me that if I missed a shot it would spoil the tx. The timing of the rbv is less important because the level changes slowly. I think the half life is 6 weeks.
I was in tx from 9/02 to 8/03. I had a rbv reduction that went from wk4 to wk20. The dr said that there was a feeling that if you can get 85% of the optimal dose of rbv over the course of tx the outcome isn't much different from a full dose. Below that, relapse is more likely. This must have evolved into 80/80. I'm SVR.
Again, shoot the inf at the right time and with the right dose.
Thanks for the tips. I'll definitely check those products out. As of today the Dentist has me rinsing 3x daily with an antibiotic rinse - then 1x daily in a few days.
Prior to being thrust into treatment, I had lower ortho braces applied and they're stiill in place (if I end up just getting my pearly whites ready for the pearly gates - at least I'll be taking the trip with a nice smile)! So between the meds, the low WBC, and the braces, Dr BriteSmile thinks the rinse will help to get the oral science experiment back on track.
It is 11% alcohol, but sheesh - what are ya gonna do?
