The connection of Hepatitis C, Gout and Arthritis.

I was on the 12 month treatment for HepC.  During treatment I had to use a cane, then crutches, then a wheelchair....now I use one crutch.  Days ago I got on the Net to see if there were others like me.  Found out that in 2004 there were many reports of people with HepC/Arthritis/Gout (all at same time).  My question is, do a lot of the people on this board have this problem?  Also, is the Arthritis/Gout caused from the treatment?  I am now clear of HepC, but I suffer from Arthritis and am usually in pain.

gout is genetic.  mostly men.  The joint pain is caused by the deposit of uric acid chrystals that the liver doesn't process out.  A stressed, under functioning liver doesn't process well.

The triggers are rich foods, alcohol, citus, stress, sometimes the weather-no joke.

Gout is no joke and is so painful medication is available.  Gout can attack other joints, such as knees, ankeles, hips, not just the 'big toe and joint.'  the whole bottom of your feet can swell up.  I have a friend-black male-who is often bedridden for wks, unable to stand or walk.  He's HCV also.

gout is accompanied by headaches, fevers, chills and all the other manisfications of a sever inflamation.

So if you're a white male over 30 w/anglo-saxon, germatic stock you fit the most common patient profile.  White males traditionally could afford the rich foods and drink.

But many women and other races get gout and it seems to be on the increase in HCV patients.

The connection to hep c is probly the liver's decreased ability to filter out toxins and the tendency for some toxins-specifically uric acid-to form chrystals that are deposited in joints and inflame them.

the best cure is to change your diet and recognize your own 'triggers' and avoid them.  and ask your doctor for the meds if behavior modification isn't enuf.  My friend goes for meds, I go for behvior modification-the natural way,

Looking at my own experience with increasing joint and arthritic symptoms, I am sure the HCV I've had for 30 years is at least partly responsible.  The question for me remains....is it an auotimmune type condition and therefore will be made worse with Interferon Tx?
