Just wanted to save this thread...
I was shopping yesterday and came across alcohol-free wine and beer. Didn't buy though:( Is it safe for us, heppers?
I thought that nice bottle of wine would be good for X-Mas or New Years...

I tried some called "Frei" or something close to that. The chardonay tasted like bad grape juice. The red wine I tried tasted like communion wine. I have tried a few other brands as well and did not care for them either. Maybe someone else here had a better experience, if so , I hope they share. Many of my friends drink and it would be nice to have a nice glass of n/a wine with them.   Good luck,                     berlynn

I think the beers are very good. Sharps by Miller is one of closest to real beer in my opinion. I was suprised cause I was not much of a Miller drinker before all this. And yes, I have found that the wines all taste like fizzy grape juice.
As for "safety", carbonated stuff is probably a little bad for us, but for once in awhile fake beer sure does contribute to quality of life, and that's still important!

Good to save this post. I was a long time beer drinker, BTW I do miss it alot. When I became aware I was HCV positive I switched to NA beer. I just started TX and asked my doc about NA beer, he is conservative and said one a week is OK. There is a small amount of alcahol in NA. <1/2%. so I am sticking to the gallons of water! On the subject of water. I weigh about 190 lbs and am drinking over 100 oz per day. I am getting really bloated! I look like I ate a watermellon sometimes. Can iI be drinking too much water?

Have you told your Dr about this? Are your ankles swelling? Might ask Dr. about how many ounces for sure. Mine put me on 64 and I weigh 180. I forget (duh!) how they figure that. Anyone?

Do you have any swelling in the ankles (press down on the ankle bone for about 10 sec and see if a dent remains).  Weigh yourself frequently and see if you are gaining - like 5 lbs a week is probly too much.  Your doc can assess if you are retaining fluids.  Normal functioning kidneys and heart will flush out the water equal to the amt taken into the body. If you are feeling bloated and your abdomen looks swollen, get checked by the doctor.  They can give you a "hat" that you pee in at home, and measure each time so you can gauge if your input equals pretty much your output.  I drink about 200 oz of water a day, weight 160ish and dont feel bloated, so get checked.   OHC
