Thrush?

I am very sure that I have developed a lovely case of thrush.  I have no way of getting to my doc today.  Is there anything that she can call in to my pharmacy?  Until then, is there any advice for pain relief?  Also, how to I prevent it from returning?

Thanks for the tip.  Unfortunately, my doc won't prescribe anything without seeing me and she's off until monday.  Guess I'm outta luck til then.  I'm going to try the vinegar.  Can't be worse than what I'm feeling now.  Today is going to get better.  I can tell.

Any time I take steroids I get thrush... my GP calls in lozenges that work wonders.  I also gargle and swish with vinegar... sounds crazy, but really helps.  Makes me crave sea salt and vinegar chips!! lol!  I hope you can get some relief soon!

Hugs,
Janette

This is a post I put up on this about a year ago with the differentl ingredients in the mixture

Oct 14, 2011
..
hrsepwrguy & all :
magic mouthwash is usually a custom made blend of ingredients(at least it is that way in Canada)
The doc writes a RX for the things he wants in it and then the pharmacy mixes it up.

The  mixture I used that worked great for some sores on tx. as well as some oral lichen planus I I have flare up at times is:
Nystatin(this fights any fungal infection) Dexamethasone(this is an anti-inflamare) Tetracycline(antibiotic for bacteria) and Benadryl(antihistamine)

Swished it around 3 times a day for a min or 2  and  cleared everything up in a day or two.
Hope that hepls ..

I would doubt it  has anything to do with eating or not eating yogurt ,but more to do with the immune system  doing strange things from the INF(many members have described having what you are going through).. The symptoms you describe sounds like "thrush " as it sometimes does get red and painful,,however eventually a swab would be best to  rule out a bacterial infection in which case antibiotics would be needed.

As I mentioned the nystatin mixture should help if thrush.

Sorry you are having to put up with this...like you don't have enough to think about  huh

Sorry about that.  I have the white patches (as well as some red) on the back of my throat, the roof of my mouth, my tongue, and cheeks.  It is very painful to eat, drink, and swallow.  I have a call into my doc so we'll see what comes of that.  She may not want to prescribe anything without seeing me and I cannot get there today since I don't drive.  I was eating so much yogurt early in my treatment and then I lost my appetite for it.  Could that have anything to do with the sudden outbreak?

You don't mention where the  possible "thrush " is. On the tongue ?,,throat?
Thrush usually is symptomatic by visible white type patches ,sometimes painful and sometimes not.

True thrush is from the "fungal" organism  that is  usually counter-acted by the Anti -fungal medication " nystatin ",either gargled or sometimes swallowed.

To get a proper diagnosis a swab should be done ,however in the meantime nystatin could be tried or ask the doctor to phone in a product called "Magic Mouthwash",inclusive of different ingredients(including nystatin,an anti histamine and pain medication)

Good luck...
