My mom is 56, she has  got Hep C genotype 1a and she is going to start triple therapy on Monday, 12th of May. More I read about the side effects, more I scared... Any suggestion from people who has gone through this?

Teleprevir effects everyone differently.   There are still many people on this forum who have treated with Incivek (teleprevir) triple treatment.  We have
one member I know of who lives in the UK.   This can be a complicated treatment and requires close watchful eyes concerning side effects.  Stay connected to this forum and deal with the sides as they come.  People here.will help you understand what your mother is going through when it happens.   I treated and survived triple treatment and am now Hepatitis C free.   Do you know what stage your mother's liver is at?  Can you get her to join this forum for support with her treatment?  It would be extremely beneficial if she could communicate on the forum too.

Thank you very much Hektor. Yes, doctor told us that Sovaldi has been approved in January this year, but it's very expensive at the moment. Also they are going to treat first people who has already tryed another treatments. For my mum it's the first treatment.

Insruction for Teleprevir says'' INCIVEK is a hepatitis C virus (HCV) NS3/4A protease inhibitor indicated,in combination with peginterferon alfa and ribavirin, for the treatment of genotype 1 chronic hepatitis C'..

he European regulator in January approved Sovaldi (sofosbuvir) for use both in combination with pegylated interferon alpha and ribavirin in patients with hepatitis C  If this is the treatment your mother doctor will be using this is the correct treatment for her. Or some combination of this drug with others.

The most common adverse events (≥ 20%) for SOVALDI + peginterferon alfa + ribavirin combination therapy were fatigue, headache, nausea, insomnia and anemia. While many people experience some side effects on this treatment very few every have to stop treatment because of them.

The first-generation protease inhibitors telaprevir (Incivek or Incivo) or boceprevir (Victrelis) that the others are mentioning should NOT be used for treatment of genotype 1 HCV infection in the EU.

The European Association for the Study of the Liver (EASL) has issued new guidelines for the treatment of hepatitis C, which recommend that wherever possible, patients should be treated with the newest direct-acting antivirals. The guidelines also recommend physicians should "mix and match" antivirals from different companies to get the most potent regimens.

Good luck to your mother.

This is an older treatment for the United States where I live.  So newer treatment may not be available in the UK yet.  I would ask that as a new question on the forum.  You want to get the lastest information about treatment in the UK.

Your mother is a a stage where she should treat.  This is most likely why doctors are prescribing Incivek treatment.  Newer treatment may have not become available in the UK.

Ask  ask ask on this forum.   Incivek has it's possible challenges and you need to stay right on top of all of them.

Very important is that your mom takes the Incivek and Ribavirin with fat.  If you look at the top of the forum....you will see a little spy glass on the left.
Type in Incivek 20 grams fat.   There is lots of suggestion on healthy and unhealthy 20 grams of fat.   I personally wish I would have ate a more healthy 20 grams of fat during Incivek.

You want to read everything about the treatment drugs.  Go to Incivek.com and get connected with the help line.  You can also call them directly if needed.

Don't wait concerning any side effects when on triple therapy.   Get here ASAP.   Don't hesitate to call your doctor about side effects.  Doctor's now know a great deal more than recent past about triple treatment.

Be prepared to dedicate your time to making sure your mother takes all her medication on time without fail.  It's very important you don't miss doses.

Thank you and congratulation! My mom leaves with me and she doesn't speak English, so I'll be posting on her behalf. She is on stage 3/4. I am not sure if this therapy (pegylated interferon, ribavirin and teleprevir)  is the best options for her, but doctor says we should start with this..
