I've been married for 23 years and have had HCV the entire time................except for the last two because I'm now SVR. Anyway, my husband has performed oral sex on me the entire time and he still has not tested positive so I do not believe that you have anything to worry about.
HCV is not an STD. My husband and I consider that we have zero risk for sexual transmission, and most people here would agree, except for traumatic sex where blood-to-blood contact could occur. Some disagree. I've read that there is up to a 3% chance of transmission, which I personally don't think possible, except due to traumatic sex.
There has to be blood-to-blood contact to transmit HCV, and that is what you need to avoid, whether it's in the kitchen, bathroom or bedroom. On the other hand, many of us did 'all the wrong things' for decades but our families tested negative for HCV.
You could investigate a dental dam but I don't see it as necessary:
"In regards to safe sex practices, dental dams are most commonly recognized for their use during cunnilingus and analingus, to protect against the transmission of sexually transmitted diseases. An unpunctured dental dam may be held over the vulva or anus, allowing oral stimulation of these areas without transmission of bodily fluids."
Good luck. It's no big deal socially to have HCV, except for the unjustified stigma it carries. And unfortunately, that stigma is real, as undeserved as it is.
Thank you for your response, she is a little nervous and so I'm I, I don't want her to fear or face what I have ~ Paddie 13
There is virtually no risk and you don't need to do anything to protect yourself. HCV today is generally not thought to be an STD, so long as you avoid extreme behavior. It is only transmitted via direct blood-to-blood contact. That's not involved in oral sex.
