bone scan-thinning bones

Has anyone had a bone scan prior to staring tx. I just did and my bones are thin or thinning. I know this happens with menopause, but I found an article that said liver disease causes bones to thin. My concern is that i read that the treatment can also be a problem as far as the bones, kind of obvious, I guess because of treatment. My internist told me to take Vitamin D, which I have been 400mgs, but he wants me to take 10 times that. I just read that Vitamin D is not something that people with hep should be taking, as also vitamin a.I knew about A but not about possible problems with D. i feel, IMO, that the hep has been depleting my vitamin D in my body over the years and causing my bones to weaken.

Anybody have any thoughts on this? I certainly don't want to hear  from the liver doc that i should take a drug such as fosomex. TV commercials are a joke with the sx.Scare you to death.

I noticed alot of people complain of bone pain and aches while on tx. I now wonder if its because the persons bones are on the thin side ot if its just a sx of tx or possibly little of both.

Well, if anyone has any info or have run into same situation, I would like to hear from you. Also, it might be a good idea to also get bone scan after anyone completes tx. I am so tired of this and haven't even begun. i am just afraid to start treatment and have to stop because of bones getting worse or something. My bones feel fine, i wouldn't have know, except for the scan.

hi, date wasn't discussed yet. just had the one appointment with GI. He did exam and blood to see what geno type. He called and said I am a 2. Now i will be meeting with an associate and discuss what's next. I don't want to start before thyroid is under control, though. Also..on a test that I had at another doctors office, it showed I am borderline with some kind of autoimmune disease. Who knows what though.I guess they can't tell when its only slight, as far as numbers in reference range. I will discuss that with Gi, because i don't want something worse to manifest itself with treatment. The fun never ends.Somebody wake me up when it's all over and tell me if I SRV.
Would't that be nice??

Please be careful about going in the sun once you start tx. I have read her many times those on tx have bad reactions to the  sun. Hopefully they will read this and let you know their experiences. When r u planning to start tx?

I was very surprise to hear I have thin bones. I'll have the gi look at the scan and see what's what. Sitting in the sun is very benificial, so I will do that a little more. Hope your bones are fine. Let me know how your scan turns out.

"this" meaning "thin bones", not working out with weights. Read my post and it wasn't clear to me. I can't spell anymore, nor organize my thoughts anymore and haven't even began tx. You guys are going to need patience with me for sure.

Thanks...I Haven't been working out for quite a while, just walking, used to work out with weights alot, but I don't know I am hoping this doesn't have to do with the virus. i had a whole vitamin profile done and it seems I am low on the vitamins that hep seems to effect. zinc, magnesium etc. and i do take them faithfully. My blood work is good though,as far as LFT and the rest, thank God, so i will wait and see what the liver doc says.
thanks

yes! ask for the test. my GYN has the machine in his practice. It is like some type of scan, no big deal. Mine was compared to a younger woman's stats and apparently did not differ too much.

walking is good, and doing wts on alternate days is a good regimen. good luck

Hi, I am going to the Gyno tonight-I am 50ys and am probably 3/4 done with menopause. He hasn't asked for a bone scan test but since I am starting tx in fall sounds like a must. What does it involve? Also, because I am lucky enough to have had 2 kidney stones calcium supplements are out. I try to compensate with yogurt and cheese.

I had a bone scan while on tx, months into it and it was fine. No severe bone loss. Calcium/magnesium supplement plus vit d and boron could be a good addition. Exercise, wt bearing, keeps the bone density also. Puritan's Pride is having their best sale of buy one get two, time to replenish my stash. I will have another scan before my GYN yearly, in Nov. We'll see how things are post tx and post contraceptives.
