"btw I'm often wrong"
Hysterical!
FWIW The rule of converting half your body weight number to oz's of water to drink per day should be a guideline not a hard fast rule. I drank a gallon of water a day for the first 10 weeks. No, no, no, won't be doing that again. I had extreme difficulty controlling my bowels, was bloated, miserable, worse than the sides, which I admit were very mild. Just sayin' as long as you don't get cotton mouth, and the sides aren't to bad and if you're having difficulty downing 100 oz a day ... btw I'm often wrong ;) just an opinion.
My nurse said anything with CAFFEINE cannot be counted in your liquid count
Coffee Drinking Improves Hepatitis C Treatment Response, Study Suggests
ScienceDaily (June 7, 2011) — Advanced hepatitis C patients with chronic liver disease may benefit from drinking coffee during treatment, according to a new study in Gastroenterology, the official journal of the American Gastroenterological Association (AGA) Institute.
Patients who received peginterferon plus ribavirin treatment and who drank three or more cups of coffee per day were two times more likely to respond to treatment than non-drinkers.

You should drink 8 oz of water for every cup of coffee you drink. When I had kidney stones my dr said for everything that you drink that is colored(coffee, tea, dark soft drinks etc) drink 8 oz of water afterwards.Water helps to keep your kidneys in good working order and can prevent you from getting kidney stones.I learned the hard way.I would not only rely on it as total liquid. cindy
I think my post contradicts itself, lol. In reality, even though I counted it when I drank it, I did not really count the 12 ounces of coffee in the total daily intake because I faithfully drank a gallon of liquid a day, mostly water, plus I drank about 24 ounces of water during the night, and I never counted the night water. Therefore, I was really drinking more than a gallon even without the coffee. So better just disregard my post since it makes no sense. My brain does not work so well on these meds, lol.
My understanding is coffee is not to be included in the volume of liquids you drink each day since it dehydrates the body. However, I drink 2-3 cups each morning and it has positive benefits. I don't count the volume of water and other liquids in foods consumed, but just try to stay well hydrated.
"Drink water instead of caffeinated beverages such as sodas, tea, and coffee. Caffeinated beverages deplete the body of fluids, which necessitates
drinking even more water."

I believe you can count it as liquid. I did, but I drank only one large cup of coffee a day (maybe 12 onces). It is liquid, after all. The only thing to keep in mind is that coffee is a diuretic so it makes you urinate and can be dehydrating. It would do its flushing part of the job, but as a diuretic, you may want to try to get in an extra 2-3 cups of some other liquid when you can to counteract the dehydration. Maybe decaf coffee would help not dehydrate you.
Drink coffee, its good for your liver.
But drink water, all the time.
My nurse said if I drink coffee I should drink even more water since coffee is considered dehydrating.
