A hallmark of hepatitis C is fluctuating liver enzymes. Unless they are wildly swinging up and down by 100's of points, it is nothing to worry about. And as Bill said, viral load does not correlate with disease severity and actually enzymes elevated to two or three times normal doesn't correlate well either.

How can they tell if you just got hep C?  Was there some incident? Are you feeling sick?  Doesn't sound like your getting allot of information from your doc.  You might ask him to explain to you why he thinks you just contracted the virus.  Elevated enzymes can be from other sources.  Are you taking any drugs?  accutane?  Lots of NSAID's must be some other sources too.

Hi there,

Viral load doesn’t necessarily correlate with either enzyme elevation or disease severity. If you have Hep C (HCV) it not unusual to have your enzymes elevated some. Have you considered treatment for the virus yet? What has your doctor told you about the treatment; has he recommended for or against it at this time?

There are lots of people to talk to about this here; I’ll help you as much as possible, if you’re feeling confused right now. Do you have any specific questions?

Take care--

Bill
