It IS treated for 48 weeks.
Geno 4 is relatively rare in the west, it's very common in the middle east (especially egypt). As far as I know it's considered less difficult to treat than geno 1, but less responsive than geno 2 (a sort of "in between" genotype). I believe it's usually treated for 48 weeks though. And the drug you're probably wondering about is called Alinia. It's been recently tested in Egypt (it was added to existing interferon/ribavirin drug therapy) on genotype 4's and although the test results are a little confusing, it definitely appears to be helpful in geno 4's. Plus it appears to have virtually no negative side effects and very low toxicity, so it shouldn't add to treatment misery. And it's already FDA approved and already on the market (but is used to treat parasites, it was not originally developed for HCV). Hope this helps a little, good luck.
in the us 4 is very rare
we are treated similarly to geno 1's.
