I was prescribed Lexapro prophylactically for HCV treatment in early 2005; it worked like a charm, and I didn’t notice any side effects. Almost as importantly, I abruptly stopped taking it approximately three weeks ago, and didn’t suffer any apparent side effects. Based on my personal experience, I would heartily endorse it if needed.

I used to take Lexapro. The only side effects I had were nausea after I took the pill for about an hour. I mentioned it to my doctor and she had me take the pill before I went to bed. Nausea was gone after that and never returned. I also was really thirsty for the first week or so, that also subsided.

I had to switch to Wellbutrin when our insurance coverage changed and the new company would not cover the Lexapro. I honestly do not think Wellbutrin works as well for me as Lexapro did.

The Dr. suggested I take it I guess I seemed depressed. Who would'nt be? I don't have hep C, but I do have cryptogenic liver disease ESLD. Well he gave me samples for about a month. When I tried to fill the priscription. My insurance would not cover drugs that are not generic. So I ended up with setraline. Which is similar to Lexapro and is a generic for Zoloft. So I have been on all of them during this year. No side effects, I was going to stop taking them because I didn't feel any different. Then I realized I wasn't crying at the drop of a hat, plus my anxiety attacks have been less frequent. So I guess I will stick to it.  Good Luck, cat

i am taking lexapro, and my doctors wanted me to start prior to treatment too. i didn't like the idea of having to take anti-depressants, but when it was explained to me that inteferon chemically stops the production of seratonin, i did what they suggested.  it has (mentally & emotionally) made treatment much more tolerable.  best of luck...

Hi cindyfs48,
I have been taking Lexapro for about 7 years now. That SSRI has really dont great things for me. It has had to be raised to get the greatest effect on me. This is an SSRI with not as many side-effects as some of the other drugs. The only side effects that I noted when first started it was a headache and tiredness for about the first 7 days. After that, they go away. If you experience any other side effects that are not severe, just try to stick with it; they will be gone soon!
