Elevated LFT's how worried should I be?

Hello all! I just found out that my LFT's are elevated, but how bad are they really? My ALT is 96 (normal is 17-63), AST is 153 (normal is 15-41) and my LDH is 313 (normal is 99-192)...yes I was fasting. I also have Hoshimoto's thyroiditis which is currently under control and to top it all off my Cholesterol is 249, which they can't treat yet due to my LFT's. I am getting the feeling that my Dr. isn't being agressive enough in finding out what is wrong with me. How bad is this compared to your own levels and how agressive should I be in getting answers? Thanks for all your help. Hope to hear from you all soon.

I think it's high enough to follow up and get to the bottom of why they are high.
Ideally you want them to be in the teens and 20's, even though the normal range is higher.Did your doctor screen you for hepatitis a b and c? It's a simple blood test to check. Usually they do an ultrasound to check for fatty liver too. I'd start there and if you still don't have any answers I'd see a heptologist or a gastroentrologist.

When liver enzymes are high, you should not drink alcohol, check your meds if you take any to make sure they are liver friendly and stay away from trans and saturated fats in your diet.

I understand that thyroid problems can cause elevations in liver enzymes. If you have been tested for hepatitis and are negative, you might want to discuss this with your endocrinologist. Good luck.

BTW, your enzymes are certainly elevated but they aren't horrible.

Well I have been vaccinated for Hep A & B and don't have any risk factors for Hep C. I rarely drink and when I do it's only one or two beers. Since I found out my LFT's were elevated I have been watching my already healthy diet strictly and have had an alcohol. I am thinking it is AIH since I also have autoimmune thyroid disease. I get the hep b & c screening tests as well as an anti-smooth muscle antibodies screening results in the morning. Wish me luck.

Also I have been itching like crazy...is this common?
