is Peginterferon/riba right treatment?

I discussed with my dr yesterday and am about to go forward with the treatment, but really need to know your opinions about the suggested treatment.  please response,  i welcome and appreciate your comments and many thanks in advance.

background, i have both B-genome typeB and C-genome type1B with high viral load counts for both, 3M for B and 8M for C.  Liver stats, activity at grade 2+ and fibrosis at stage 1+ with no indication of inflamation or cancer via biopsy and MRI (no progression for the past 15 yrs).

The dr suggested:
For C:
-Peg alfa-2a -->  1-injection/wk
-Riba  --> 2 pills/day

For B:
-Tyzeka or Hepsera --> 1 pill/day

i am 55 but am in good physical condition and train with high intensity with multiple sports veryday, plus I dont smoke or drink. Mentally and physically, I feel that i am prepared for the tx, so i asked the dr to hit me with the hardest treatment protocol that she can.

first of all, what do you think about the above treatment protocol given my viral loads and conditions, too wuzzy? and what is the probability i achieve 2logs reduction after 12 wks?
secondly, are there other protocols that you think i should discuss with my dr?
lastly, besides vitamin, are there medicine or diet that you might suggest to increase the hemoglobin and potassium levels during tx?

Again, many thanks in advance for your thoughts and comments.

Cheers, SenorD

i would go for about 20 mg/kg/day of riba in the beginning at least until you get
clear of the virus. this is a 50% overdose. the recommended dose is 13-15 mg/ kg/day.
if you weigh 160 lbs that would be 1400 mg per day at the overdose level.
you will have to talk your doc into this. many top hepatologists do this but not all
of them. it will be a little harder on you and you will have to watch your hemo
level more closely.

ugh - my maths is horrible tonight. Are there bigger Riba pills? If he is only taking 2, is that just 400mg?

That should read "but is sounds like a LOW dose for Hep C 1B geno, at least, if it is only 600mg. But, as mentioned, sounds like there may be other factors at play re the Hep B infection, etc.

I am not sure of the size of the Riba pills, but it sounds like a dose for Hep 1B (I took 6 pills per day for 1200mg - but maybe your pills will be bigger?). In saying that, I do not know how the Hep B treatment interacts. With a bit of luck there will be someone who reads this who has experience of this co-infection. .
