Keep in mind we're just patients here and no one has the last word on whether MJ use during treatment (and there are so many treatments now) is a good or bad thing. We all have different bodies and these meds play out differently on everybody. If my doc told me not to use MJ (perhaps they are privy to study info we are not privy to) I wouldn't, but that's just me. I never expected to get the EXACT same results as another person treating, it doesn't work that way. Say side effects. Many people on the same treatment I am, Sovaldi and Olysio experience little to no side effects while I've had plenty. Not as bad by a half as the old treatments, and it's completely doable, but I can't say that I have had no sides. For me anyway, I'd listen to my doctor over anybody, and also factor in patient feedback for a more comprehensive view of treatment. Just my take.

I am not on the Olyssio, but my Dr. has said absolutely nothing to me about not being aloud to drink herbal teas.  I drink green tea everyday and have for years.  I drink Earl Grey Black Tea, and Lemon Ginger Tea that has prebiotics in it and I drink SleepyTime Green Tea.  I see nothing wrong with this and I have no idea why your doctor said that.  I asked specifically if there were any foods or beverages I should avoid and was told just don't eat grapefruit or drink grapefruit juice.  Not a word was said about green tea.  Now If I was drinking some type of milk thistle detox tea, then, I could see the point of telling me not to that.  But Green Tea is harmless and actually has so many benefits to the body.

I used MMJ all through treatment with my doc and study coordinators bleessing (I do live in CO though), it will not negatively effect the treatment meds, I completed 48 wks of treatment in 2012 and have been SVR since jan 2013

Have a great day

Welcome to the Hepatitis C Community.  FYI This is a forum community and not a live chat line.  It is not necessary to post multiple questions here and in the Hep Social Community.  Please allow up to 24 hours for a response.

I am not to knowledgeable about your question.   A few more details like why you need to smoke pot and how much are you talking about.  Specific medical condition, amount of pain and why other types of pain meds (approved by your doctor) will not work.

My personal opinion is the harmful effects of smoking pot have not been studied as long as tobacco has been. Some recent trials may suggest there are more harmful affects than previously thought but will need more studies.

A Word About Marijuana Use

Researchers have found that marijuana use can be harmful for people with hepatitis C. Daily marijuana use increases fat buildup in liver cells (a condition called steatosis), which can worsen liver scarring. Researchers have also found that daily users are more likely to have serious liver damage than occasional users or non-users.

In contrast, one study of an older hep C treatment regimen reported that modest cannabis users were more likely to complete treatment and to be cured than non-users, because marijuana helped them to manage treatment side effects.

I wish you the best including achieving SVR 12 weeks after EOT.

you should get some more responses from other members here within the next day.
