I know what you mean ~ my GI isn't very forthcoming when it comes to prescriptions either. I felt uneasy asking for Zofran but I made myself do it. I It turned out to be more than OK. His PA said they actually prescribe a lot of Zofran.
You might be doing your doctor a favor. He needs a healthy respect for the sides that come with these PIs. There aren't many OTC meds or home remedies that knock out medication-related nausea.
I definitely recommend Zofran. It helped (cured) my husband's nausea. He also ate raw ginger and drank ginger tea. Be sure to drink enough water and eat food with your Riba, as that can cause nausea too.

You guys are awesome. I took some meclazine yesterday and today and it seems to keep a bit of the edgy part of the nausea down.
I called my gastro guy and asked him for an Rx of zofran. I'm sure he won't do it tho, he has a severe allergy to his prescription pad.
I sure wish I would have found you guys in March instead of July...but I found ya'll..thats what counts. Thank you again.
yep, zofran is the bom digity....also i went to an asian grocery store and bought some ginger candy and some ginger drops. they worked great too.
It is worth it to get something for the nausea. Zofran was like a miracle drug for me. I was so nauseated and bloated and very sick. As soon as I got the Zofran I felt 1000% better. I used Zofran 8 mg. every 8 hours.
Yes definitely get something for nausea (I took zofran), but idyllic is right it can cause heafaches, for me it did sometimes and not others. For more mild nausea though, I used ginger ale and something called sea bands (a type of accupressure). So I didn't take the zofran all of the time. For me, though, nothing helped my appetite and I did end up loosing a lot of weight, but the day after I finished incivek, my appetite was back.
It is worth it and a definite must. I had a little nausea in the beginning but it resolved. Now at week 31 I feel nauseous all the time. I tired Zofran a few times and it gave me an absolute splitting headache - in fact I felt like I was going to be sick ! that is how bad the headaches were. Pretty high drama for an antiemetic!
☞ Still, an ℞ for Zofran is your best bet since ti works for most people☚
While many antihistamines do have anti-nausea properties I have not had much luck with them alleviating nausea.
I have been using travel sickness pills with the generic name of Meclizine. I have been taking the Rugby brand of the 25 mg chewables. There is a brand called Bonine but you do not get very many pills.
It is this:

Either way I wholeheartedly agree with Ceanothus. Nausea can be very incapacitating so it helps to have something on hand to resolve it. It might take a little experimenting but it is worth it.

I think it is worth it. What have you tried so far? Many people with mild nausea get a lot of help from ginger (tea, candied, or capsules), and keeping your fluid intake very high is helpful too. If the nausea is severe those measures probably won't do it and you should try prescription meds. Most of us have had very good results from Zofran, though there are occasional people who get nothing but a headache from it. For me, Zofran is nothing short of a miracle. I can't take most anti-nausea meds – most of them only slightly reduce the nausea but very effectively render me nearly unconscious. Zofran comes in either 4mg or 8mg, and comes either as a pill you swallow or as one you dissolve on your tongue. I had really severe nausea with vomiting and was given the 4mg dose of Zofran in the dissolving form. Each time I took it the nausea and vomiting stopped completely within about 15 minutes, and in another 15 minutes I was actually feeling hungry and wanted to eat. The instructions said every 8 hours as needed, but I only rarely needed to take a second dose layer in the day. It has a reputation for being expensive and being difficult to get insurance to cover, but it recently went generic so those are no longer problems. BTW, I have had zero side effects from Zofran. Good luck, and congrats on being near thee d of your tx!
