need help Nausea

Hi first time poster:)My Dad has Hep C and end stage cirrhosis they say he'll need a transplant soon. Any ways I was wondering what everyone else uses to treat nausea? is there any liver friendly drugs for nausea out there? He's severly nauseated to the point he can't function at all. And everytime our regular doctor prescribes meds for the nausea his liver specialist says he cant take it. Alot of people of suggested marijuana but we don't want to do that because were afraid it might effect his chances of getting a transplant. If anyone thinks they can be of any help we'd really appreciate it.
thank you
jessica

Dear Tony,
My doc told me very emphatically that "it's been found" that an ANC depressed by HepC tx is not dangerous in the same way as a low ANC from other causes.  He told me that it is not correlated with more infections.  His rx'd Neupogen for me (typical ANC was around 700), but said not to worry until you're around 400.
After tx, my whites and ANC bounced right back to normal.
Good luck.  Keep singing along!

RE ANC,

My ANC has been between 505 and 780 over the last 14 weeks. I cannot get my Kaiser Dr to prescribe Neupogen, there protocol is an ANC of 400 and under before starting it.

Any Information on when to start Neupogen would be much appreciated.

                    Thanks,

                     TonyZ

Dear Mike,
You really, really, really deserve this.  My heartfelt congratulations.  I hope all our beliefs hold true, and a good three month test will lead in a straight line to a good 6-month test and beyond.  I wish you well and happy for many, many years to come.

Dear Cuteus,
You've been such a trooper!  Don't be shy about getting a Neupogen shot.  I don't think it had any side-effects on me, and it raised my white counts very quickly.  That was totally reassuring; i.e. the underlying system was not damaged.  In fact,
I was surprised after the first shot: my white count, ANC and all, shot to above the normal range.  Whoa!  What was that all about?  Anyway, Neupogen is there, and a few shots could certainly get you by if you need them.

Regards to you both from

I'm a slow reader so I had time to swallow hard between "got lab results" and "everything looks good". Man, what a relief. Congratulations on reaching this huge milestone. Thanks for being here to offer all of us encouragement and wishing you the best in your recovery. MAD

I agree with Chev and the others!!  You are one of the strongest people I know going through tx and I know it hasn't been easy for you being a single mom and working everyday! You are just not one to complain and you keep going,,,,I admire you so much! Hang in there as we are all cheering you on to the finish line!

No disappointing news in there. You've done great the whole way through. As far as your ANC count goes, most docs intervene at 500-750, so you're still a bit above there. There's always a shot of Neupogen if need be.

You're right about the slow healing part. My ANC has been low pretty much the whole way through and any-and-all cuts, bruises, wounds, etc. - seem to take forever to get better.

Hang in there - it's only a short drive from here.

TY for the encouragement, it is extremely appreciated, you have no idea how much... in addittion to the blood work, the aches have intensified with the cold weather...it seems like the final stretch has a bit of an incllne to climb. what a test! I spoke with my parents a short time ago and they are both praying for my cure...I feel guilty since my connections with the above is thru them and those of you here whose faith seem stronger than mine,  i wonder if God minds the coattail riding...

You know how our minds work while on this tx, this might sound farfetched, but if my neutrophils were 1300's four weeks ago and now are 882, will they be almost zero in 4 more wks, if that rate continues, is that how the drops work? it seems like a big drop in such a short time and if it happened once can it happen again?

Monthly check up on Thursday, the good news is the bone density test showed my bones are in good shape for an old lady on interferon.
the bad news is, my neutrophils finally caught up with the meds...after 67 wks, they are 883, but doc will let it go to the 750 mark, she is not too worried due to my scheduled ending date in 5 wks. I feel fortunate that they held up all this time, since I know many of you had to deal with this early in tx.
I am seing the effects of the drop, small cuts are taking months to heal, next blood work, at 72 wks, she is doing pcr qualitative only and the t4 uptake. she then will schedule the 4 wks post tx pcr and other follow ups. I hope I make the 5 wks left and call it capput,. amazing how some of us feel the toxic effects later than others, and some none at all.
they use 48 wks for the toxic guide line, but in my case, it looks that after 60 wks, it started taking a bigger toll.
so much to learn about this tx...
on  with the fight...

I just want to echo the sentiments expressed above. In my opinion you're holding up well and I've no doubt you will make it through. You have strength and grace and that's an unbeatable combination. Throw compassion in there too and what more could anyone ask for? Be well. Mike

I got lab results today and everything looks good. Enzymes and bilirubin dropped significantly and Heptimax is still clear at 3 months. All but 2 values are normal and the two are just slightly out of range. I have to slap myself to believe it. Have a great weekend. Mike

OH my gosh!!!! I'll slap you and then slap myself ...and maybe it will sink in! All that hard work, perseverance and determination has finally yielded a most precious gem, your SVR.  MUst frame that PCR and print a large red circle with the slash inside on top of it,  or place a knight in shinning armor with its sword drawn in victorious joy, above it....
I guess you can tell I am happy for you.

What a truly wonderful blessing, Mike. It's an honor to be able to join in with congratulations for you!!!

I know you've said that in the past when you've relapsed that it occured relatively quickly. Well here you are 3 months out and still going strong!!! And great news about your LFT's and bilirubin, too. All good indicators going into your 6 month SVR.

You're now so very close to closing this Hep C chapter once and for all. Thank God.

What a strong lady you are. Based on the others' comments, your news is not too disappointing and you are carrying on with strength, humor, sensitivity, and genuine concern for others. You are truly one of the good guys.

Okay, we're all visualizing your neutrophil count rising slowly, gradually, inevitably upward....higher, higher,  yes, I see it now,  there it is... bingo! Normal Range.   Cuteus,  do you know you're my hero?   You're one little scrapper,  my trail guide as I follow down the long path you've already cleared.    Higher power is within, I say, and you surely have an abundant natural supply.   (Uncommonly good sense and mother wit don't hurt a bit, either.)    So this is a valentine to you, with a big hearty
congratulations for having gotten so far with so much toughness and grace.   You're at the finish line--almost there,  kid.    You're gonna make it.

Ginger tea is also very good. You can either buy it in bags or actually use real ginger.

This may sound odd, but you may want to try some of the remedies marketed at pregnant women -- such as the ginger candies & sea bands.

I used to sip on ginger ale and it seemed to help me.  I also had headaches which I think was mostly what contributed to my nausea so once I got rid of them, I seldom felt the nausea.

Good luck to your dad.
