There is a body of evidence to support the theory that low-level viral replication continues after SVR. Whether that is in all, few, or most SVRs is open for debate.
New Sojourn was in ESLD when she SVR'd. I seem to recall she had other significant health issues crop up since. Her liver disease may be progressing. It could be that suppressed virus would re-emerge as the severity of cirrhosis progresses - but that's pure speculation on my part.
New Sojourn and I never got along - but I certainly do wish her the best in health.
BTW, now I'm not sure if that's the last name of the Dr in question.
All I know is that my doc knows the doc that states the remission theory in Spain.
the type of guy you love to hate, I guess..But what if he's right...
Everyone agreed on burning Galileo
And I guess this appertains to all geno 2b's out there (myself included) that are SVR.
Sanchez Tapiaz is the spanish doctor that states the SVR is sort of a remission instead of a cure. My doc knows him personally and dissents from that statement (he's younger so I would suppose less experienced). Although he travels to Boston a lot and he seems up to date with current protocols
Maybe SJ is depressed, maybe she relapsed and his friends did too (but how much fibrosis did they have prior to TX? how much alcohol/tobacco was consumed after the SVR? Could they have been infected again with the same geno? All these questions make me wonder.
I do hope Sanchez Tapias is wrong...
The only thing I can do is post my results every six months to keep a history record of liver improvement (with all my fellow 2bs)

New Soujourn was indeed a VERY real poster here for a long time. I don't know if this is true or if someone copied the name and made a slight adjustment so that we can't tell but................I would give New Sourjorn the benefit of the doubt until then.
I just wish that more was posted so we could understand. Maybe NS did relapse and is having a hard time dealing with it ... I don't know. But pleast have respect because this is a real person.
Hey You Guys,,,New Sojourn was very active poster when I was treating so I definitely don't see this as being a hoax. I wish however that she would post more information because it is hard to believe that not only she but her friends all have relapsed.
New-Sojourn,,,if you are back to fighting the battle,,,I'm truly sorry!
HUH?????? As said above....can you try explaining that one again?
None of it made sense? You were SVR awhile (as Kittyface reposted) -------------------------------------------------------
the scary thing is most of us did the mono TX-3 shots a wk and riba--and the peged stuff--we're ultra sensitive to it, most can't do it. ------------------------------------------
2b's sensitive to Peg.? Vietnam vets sensitive? C'mon new sojourn, what ya' on during thid post :}??
Whatever it is sounds like a bummer type high! Whats up here??
And please relay this as Geno's 1, 2 or 3 don't need to hear these things if it isn't 'factual'.

Maybe he's referring to "occult" virus particles that remain in our bodies after SVR. Just as we retain some of the virus from a childhood bout with chicken pox (I believe it stays at the base of the spinal chord or some such place), we may retain virions of hcv. But we no longer have chicken pox, and so I'd assume we no longer have hcv.
agree with you, pure jibberish. post sounds like someone drunk or on acid wrote it. no sense at all.
There's sumptin' fishy 'bout this post, ya think? jm
Sojurn talked in a post a few years ago about being svr 2 1/2 years after finishing tx. That would indeed be a rare relapse.
What you've said above doesn't make any sense. I very strongly doubt you and all your friends that you refer to above have "relapsed" after achieving an SVR status. Please do not spread misinformation based on bogus statements due to a lack of understanding about HCV treatment.
There may/may not be a cure, but I would like to be part of the 989 below! And if it comes back I'll fight again hopefully with something new!!
The overwhelming majority of patients (989 out of 997, or > 99%) remained HCV RNA negative a mean of 4.1 (range 0.4-7) years after stopping therapy, an outcome the researchers regard as a cure.

Sorry to hear this, without a quantative test that measures to 0, we may always be fighting a bit of virus even though we are UND.
I've heard also HBV is like that, you can clear it on your own, but it is never totaly gone from your body, we're just keeping it in check and it can rear it's ugly head at any time, especially when your immune system is compromised. I don't know this for a fact, just what I have heard.
This would be horrible news for people who cleared HCV, especially the 2b-ers.
I am sorry to here this. I have never heard of a virus returning after 3 years clear..
This is your post from Feb 13, 2004:
new-sojourn:
"I,too, am 2b-excuse me, WAS 2B. I cl'ed May 2002, fin tx Oct 2002 and now at Feb 2004 still cl. No matter what one's health level was before tx and cl'in', life after cl'ing is better and life after tx and cl'ing is only going to get better-different, b/better."
Are you telling us that the virus has come back? When? What VL? Please elaborate -- we're dying to hear what you have to say. Or is this some terrible joke?
Kittyface
What??????? Is this a joke? I thought if you were clear one year post tx that meant permanent SVR.
When year did you/your friends tx and how many years after that did they discover the virus broke through?
I'm astounded.
