I had no idea they had listed me as a doctor. Of course they might mean PhD (that's piled higher and deeper. lol)

A few months before I started treatment (almost a year ago)and all through my treatment time, I've  gone on healthboards.com in order to gain information. Healthboards is a great forum with vast amounts of information regarding this disease;  hepatitis C and treatment of hepatitis C .

I have followed your (Teresa Hanby's) comments and advice on that board as well as through your hepatitis c outreach project/www.hcop.org.

Thanks Teresa for your dedication to continually research and publish information with this disease. I've learned so much from you and your comments.

Teresa - I apologize for any statement I made to you that could be deemed a personal attack.  Though there was no excuse, I attribute my remarks to my own insecurity and fear of this disease.  It will not happen again.

It is sort of like 'Dr.' Kissinger to me.

Her credentials are not a question I care to 'debate' with her or anyone else. She isn't a doctor and the website had her listed as one.

This was started when Teresa questioned Dr. Douglas Dieterich's public statement on a particular subject, which she later denied doing. She acted as if she was THE authority on the subject when, in fact, she is not a MD and couldn't provide any solid evidence to contradict Dieterich when asked. She discouraged one person to the point where they almost stopped treatment. Read back on the board ...

I don't care for that sort of support. My opinion only.

I applaud the good that is done but have to take issue with self-appointed experts that list their good deeds like Tarzan beating his chest. I ran for US Congress several times and State Assembly. Big deal.

My goal certainly isn't to cause this board to deteriorate into something it shouldn't ever be so the subject is closed for me.

I too am suspicious a little.  Volunteer, travel at own expense, etc.   Maybe there are some seminars/videos/books that are making up for the cost? Maybe Sybil.  

But since most of us can still think thru the fog, we can differentiate and be cautious at best.

Please, please don't think that I am "taking sides".  I actually read EVERYTHING that you post and definatley see your point and I admire your spunk.  You are one of the people that I hold in high regard.  I just don't like see you attacked or anybody else for that matter.  Peace.

No, I wasn't talking about thanbey.  Down a couple threads there was some name calling and I found it to be unnecessary.  I must admit, Rev and Thanbey do argue their points well.  And PeeBee, I love your posts, you always bring a smile to my face...just like Ring use to do!  I wanted to thank you for that.

Wow!

So much wisdom. I love the idea of wildflowers and I have done that in a part of my garden for years. Just keep reseeding when they are dying off.

I noted in one post the word Sybil (cybil) and it went right over my head. Okay.......I am not sure if you are asking me a question or not, but I didn't know about this board until only a few days before I made the first post. That would be about a week or so now.

I don't post anywhere as anything but thanbey...good, bad, or indifferent.

This might be a good time for amnesty for everyone. It takes courage to say you're sorry and to ask for forgiveness.

But don't be so hard on yourself. You have done what you can to make peace. The rest will be up to them.

I am a research study assistant at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer
Center.  We are currently conducting a study on an Asian herbal medicine
known as Sho-Saiko-To (SST).  Sho-Saiko-To has been used for many years
in Asia to treat liver disease and there is some emerging scientific
evidence that SST can be of benefit for hepatitis patients.  The purpose
of this study is to evaluate whether Sho-Saiko-To may improve liver
inflammation and injury caused by chronic hepatitis C.  If SST reduces
inflammation and fibrosis, this may alter the natural history of disease
and prevent the development of cirrhosis and thus HCC (hepatocellular
carcinoma).

Like your organization, we are looking to help people affected by
Hepatitis C.  At this time, we are recruiting patients for this trial
and would like to know if you would be willing to pass on information
about this study to the patients you come in contact with.  We would

Well, that's the kind of news we can use.  As you probably surmised, I'm into the herbs.  The 1st book I bought was 'The hep C Help Book.'  I didn't own a 'puter or even knew how to turn one on.  I bought a 'puter to make the time on tx go by, b/then I cl'd a 24yr transfused infection in 18 DAYS.

I've always felt the intensive 'prep' work I did before I tx'ed contributed to the fast results.  I'm now searching out long time maintanence to continue healing and rebuilding while handling the sx's of ESLD.

I'm glad the Western medical profession is looking in this direction.  Life after hep c will always demand special considerations for the damaged liver.

Apparently "some" folks did not get the point I was tryin to make a few threads ago. We all need ALL the information from ALL sides to make this decision to start tx. Those who would be put off by a single persons comments here probably should not start tx anyways. To do tx requires a "firm" commitment to finish it once you start. What drives me crazy are those who start this with the idea of..."Well. I'll just TRY it and see how it goes". That is the worst thing I can think of. We all need ALL the information we can get on this BEFORE we start....good, bad, right, wrong, or whatever. It's up to US to sort it all out for ourselves.
Apparently my last story didn't get the point accross.....GREAT. That gives me the opportunity to tell another one.................(I hope you all are ready for THIS).....

THE GOOD NAPKINS!!!!!

My mother taught me to read when I was four years old (her first mistake). One day, I was in the bathroom and noticed one of the cabinet doors was ajar. I read the box in the cabinet. I then asked my mother why she was keeping 'napkins' in the bathroom. Didn't they belong in the kitchen? Not wanting to burden me with unnecessary facts, she told me that those were for
"special occasions" (her second mistake).
Now fast forward a few months....It's Thanksgiving Day, and my folks are leaving to pick up my uncle and his wife for dinner... Mom had assignments for all of us while they were gone. Mine was to set the table. When they returned, my uncle came in first and immediately burst into laughter. Next came his wife who gasped, then began giggling. Next came my father, who roared with laughter. Then came Mom, who almost died of embarrassment when she saw each place setting on the table with a "special occasion" napkin at each plate, with the fork carefully arranged on top. I had even tucked the little tail in so they didn't hang off the edge!!
My mother asked me why I used these and, of course, my response sent the other adults into further fits of laughter. "But, Mom, you SAID they were for special occasions!!!"


So...you can see that without ALL of the information(good or bad) it's hard to make the right decisions.

We have all kinds of choices in this world and in our time on this planet. I have made some I could have sworn were right and I have failed. I have made some that I have sworn were right and were right. I have made some looking back were wrong but turned out O.K. I made some that were wrong that almost ruined my life including drug abuse. There are no gaurantees in life.

I think looking at all sides of the coin is a good thing.


The Constitution has has a line in there I love "All truths shall become self evident"

The other line was either Churchill or Roosevlet "The only thing we have to fear is fear itself".


Guys don't be afraid we will all see the truth someday.

We have to make our own decions and stick by them right or wrong we made them.

Thank you for putting this all into perspective. I fell badly for all the negative you have experienced here. I think your analogy reflected an insight that made many things more clear for me....I have been one to stay away from any battles that have rocked this board...I come here to give and get support......they made me feel very uncomfortable. However, another advantage to this board is the knowledge that is shared....before I came here...I did not want to research....I wanted to JUST DO IT and GET THROUGH IT.......I was lonely for empathy and contact with someone who understood my feelings and fears. Although I was already almost halfway through tx when I first found this board...I think I can now be considered ...if not an oldie...an inbetweenie...LOL.I have learned alot from this board...although that was not my original intent....Iremmember when some of the "Good Ole Boys" debated and shared info all the time. It is what got me "hooked"  forum (that and willings analogy of this forum, when he welcomed me aboard)

Anyway,,(sorry, I always ramble) None of us are experts...we all have ideas..and opinions...that is OK....that is what I try to teach my students...That we are all INDIVIDUAL...and that is what makes us ALL special.

Look what happened to Tom....he was doing so good...I am a 1A as well and that news was really hard to take (you are in my prayers Tom)

We have to face it.....TX may not work for all of us...especially us 1's...we need to know what else is out there..just in case.
I do believe that Tx is the best option....but...we alll need to know about options too.....keep our eyes and our MINDS open.
Who can't learn from a good debate...... but it is important to debate intelligently and respectfully ...I hate to see the name calling and and the fowl language. We all come here for various reasons.....mostly for support...and I would hate to see someone not get the support thy so desperately need......The support that I have recieved from this forum has been the glue that has held me together for 40/48. love to all. berlynn
