surgery with Hep C and ESLD

Thanks so much and yes I have told them about my liver and cant stress it enough. Had ER visit last night have soft tissue infection from the pruitis (spelling) man it sure hurts too they didnt hesitate putting me on 2000 milligrams of Kflex before leaving and filling script today. Hope this doesnt delay surgery but cant afford complications. they said since its soft tissue it should be ok. But will talk to surgeon on Monday. Will postpone if necessary.I thought it was gout but glad I went to ER.Looks much better this A.M. I tell you its a new battle everyday but I will be fine and thanks to all...will let you all know how it all turns out. I will be staying with my mom since i cant afford to have my dogs jumping on me. Wow having my 74 yr old mom taking care of me is kinda weird but thankful shes able...guess your kid is still your kid. Hope all has a blessed weekend.

'Pruritus or itch is defined as an unpleasant sensation of the skin that provokes the urge to scratch. '

Were you scratching and causing bleeding so it got infected?
I have a good friend who has had a transplant 3 years ago now who's arms are totally scarred from pruritus and itching. He has very bad complications from his liver disease before be received a transplant. Being drained every week for ascites, went into a number of comas from HE, had multiple bleeds from bursting varices. Luckily he is doing well now and he is treating his hepatitis C. So I know the pruritus is a serious issue. I have even heard of people that use knives to scratch with to get satisfaction. Terrible mind image.

Keflex is used to treat infections caused by bacteria. It's an antibiotic. As you mentioned an infection going into surgery could be an issue. I guess it is a matter of how serious the infection is.

Looks like you never get a break. 'Out of the frying pan into the fire'. It is the long haul we have to be prepared for. The ups and downs an drive anyone insane. I envision it as a roller coast. Once you are up you can bet you'll be going down soon. I try to go with the punches. Be flexible. Sometimes you have to make 180 degree turns on a dime. It ain't easy but it is doable. And it is good training in self discipline.

Hang in there. Let us know if the surgery is postponed temporary.

Be strong, be well.

Hector
