Hi, I had a potential exposure to hep c.. I know there are many sites online where you can order pcr tests, I was wondering if anyone would know any inexpensive reliable ones.  I can't locate any websites to order one off of.  Or maybe someone knows where I could get a PCR test in the NYC area?  Can any lab, such as quest diagnostics, order a PCR test?  I'm pretty confused about how to go about getting one, and would really just like to find something inexpensive to order onine, so any advice would be great.  Thanks for all your help.

I found the link in my old records:

http://www.nepatsg.org/hepatitis/index.htm

It is only $10 through the mail.

You can get PCR test from online companies. But there are a few states that don't allow it and I think NY is one of them. They cost around $300
Not sure why you want an expensive PCR. Did you test positive for the antibodies? Usually you get the less expensive antibody test first and if you test pos then you confirm with the PCR.

I remember years ago seeing antibody tests available through the mail from some Hepatitis C organizations. I remember seeing one for $10. You stick your finger to get drop of blood for the test. Not sure but I think you mail it back to them for confidential testing? Try to Google it.

Or like andiamo said just asked your doctor.

best of luck

The easiest way to get one is to see a doctor and describe your potential exposure.  If the doctor agrees, he/she will write a prescription that you can bring to quest and get a PCR.

I am unaware of any website that will order a PCR for you.  your insurance company will not pay for it without a prescription and most labs will not perform the test without a prescription.
