sad and crushed

my husband's anti hcv result just came back reactive. we have been referred to a specialist. i dont know if another test will be needed as our GP wasn't really helpful apart from saying it is a very bad disease he doesnt know much abt n he thinks there isnt a cure. i am crushed n feel so weak and terrified i dont know how to go on. i've heard tt treatment only works on some pple. ive done some research n seen tt some pple have been cured from it, although its really costly in my country. i need some advice here. can anybody pls give me some advice? what are his chances of being cured?? can pple with hep c live normal n healthy lives? what lifestyle choices shld they make? really shattered right now. he stopped drug use years ago but has always drank.... what are the symptoms of liver damage? what treatment for liver disease? i am so scared right now. pls help :(

Many of the people on this forum have done treatment and old enough to be your parents and grandparents.   Hey if we can do it...your husband sure can.
Yes some people have a hard time.  But that is SOME people.  Those are the ones that come on this forum and tell you all about the horrors of hepatitis C treatment.  Is it like that? It can be.  Can you Hep C be cured?Yes.  Go to the specialist and get all the results from the tests and then we can help you with the results.  It's ok!  He's not dying and the results may be very favorable.

There is financial help with treatment.   Also, wait to see what the test say.
The doctor sounds like he did a exam and sent for blood tests.  If he is doing a viral load test don't get concerned if it not back by Wed.  It can take longer.
Try to relax and take a deep breath.  You want to see what the blood test says first.

We jst visited e specialist n e consultation plus lab test costs were staggering. He said tests will be out by wednesday, i am really n truly terrified. Dont knw hw we will be able to survive with e financial burden of Treatment.I want to cry. Prayin for a miracle but dont wanto get my hopes up to get it crushed . R clinical trials for hepc common n hw does one get signed up?? Also, e specialist felt abt his stomach n then said he will do e blood tests. Is it a bad sign tt he felt a hardened liver or something? I feel so alone n scared  hard to focus on work too but really need e job badly :(

The viral load test takes about a week.   In the mean time you can educate yourself about Hepatitis C.  It will keep your mind busy.

Go to "Hepatitis.va.gov" and read their presentation about Hepatitis C.

You need to confirm the results of your husbands reactive antibodies test with a viral load test.  20% clear the hepatitis C virus on their own.  Once you have been exposed to Hepatitis C and have a reactive response...you will test reactive for the rest of your life for Hepatitis C.  So, there is a chance your husband may test reactive and only have the hepatitis C antibodies.
He needs a viral load test to confirm.

Settle down.  your husband is young.  There is a current cure for hepatitis c and daily progress for even better treatment in the near future.  What your husband needs to do NOW is STOP drinking today!!!! Drinking as people say, is like dumping gasoline on your liver when you have hepatitis C.  Otherwise, DON'T DRINK it's really bad for you if you have Hep C.  Hep C is a slow progressing disease.  The fact that he is so young is good.  People have Hep C for 20 years - even 40 and don't even know it.   It's good he is going to a specialist and wise to not drink and help hep C progress faster.

Take A deep breath....there's treatment for Hepatitis C

he does not have hep b or a but the antibody test for hep c was reactive. given e lifestyle he used to lead, it is not too surprising. right now i am still trying to wrap my head arnd in but mostly i am terrified n in need of support. What are the chances for hep c pple to have serious liver problems? it has been abt 5-6 yrs since he quit drugs but has been a heavy drinker. he is only 30. what r his chances?

he has not gotten treatment yet. he just got the anti hcv test result today. i know u may think im some nutcase OCD freak who is asking nonsense questions but that is the plain truth. I do have severe OCD n have made my husband go for countless HIV tests before n he is negative. i grapple OCD everyday and always thought that tt was e biggest of our problems.
a week ago he found out tt 2 of his friends he used to use drugs with had hepatitis c n got tested. today we found out he is hcv reactive n have been referredto a specialist i am just terrified cos he used to be a really big drinker n i do not know wat e damage is to his liver. we see the specialist on tuesday. i am terrified n crushed n i dont know what to do.
