side effects

I just started Sol / Rib 12wk program 3 days ago. So far I`m not having any side effects. In fact I feel better than I did before I started treatment.Less muscle and joint pain ( I also have #3 Sir. ) and less itching. This seems to be in reverse of what I was expecting. When might I start to experience side effects ?
Thanks,
Steve.

Wow!!!  A little tiredness and irritability is a small price for such a dramatic improvement.m Thanks for the encouragement.

Good luck on the test Friday. Let us know the results.

I am on sovaldi & ribavirin. Into my 9th week out of 12. Feel a little tired and irritable at times. Have hep c genotype 2. Viral load to start was 142000000. First test after week 5 went down to 42. Going on Friday for second test. Hoping for great results. Take care and all the best to you.

I forgot to say how pleased and excited I am for you all. To think that you can be treated with something so powerful and have very few sides and continue with your live 'normally' and then be UND.  Hurray!

V:  I will remember the water tip.  I drink a lot now, 60 to 70 oz., but am already keeping track to increase to 95 (half my weight).

Thanks to all for th info!  I am so excited about beginning this treatment since I had the old (make that very old) treatment which was the interferon alpha 2b in 1994/95 with no response.

N:  It will be good to have someone to walk this path with.  By the way, mine is hepcGT3.

M: concerning insurance, there are lots of answers. Nursehepc is right, BUT, I was/am blessed.  I have Medicare plus uNited healthcare through AARP.  My doctor's office submitted everything after my last ( 5-16-14).  On the 21st I got a voice mail from my insurance that is was approved.  enforce I could call the back , yesterday (5-28) I got a call from the pharmacy in our county which will handle the Meds.  she told me my co-pay.  I figured 'that isn't going to work'. But befor I could get upset, she told me she had called to get a little info so she could file for the $7,000.00 grant available to help us with co-pay.
She asked me our family annual income, how many in the family and my SSAN.  she said the doctor's office gave her everything else.  she called me back in LESS than 1/2 hour and told me I was approved.  that will cover the 12 weeks.  I explained I would be on it for 24 weeks and she said she would apply for the second period.  WOW.  I am truly blessed.  8 hope that it works as well for you.

N:  I'm glad yours came through.looking forward to keeping in touch with y'all.

All.  again, thanks.   Feel much calmer about the whole thing.  excited, but calmer.  : -).    Pat

Patra - I just started Saturday on the 24rth. Our treatment should overlap!
Dull headache...intermittent fogginess. Dry...despite drinking 2 gallons of water. Nothing too remarkable thusfar. I have only missed a day of my exercise routine - i do yoga/circuit training/spin. The reason was because of lack of sleep (I think more from the excitement of finally getting the meds more than anything). I feel sooooo fortunate!

Marsfrank8 - Sovaldi and ribivirin is standard of care (SOC) for Genotype 2 (which I believe most of us on this particular message string are). My company's health insurance covered without issue. I frankly think the reason that my approval took 2 mos since my last appointment was more on the hospital/Dr's side (getting the paperwork together and to the right place for authorization), not the insurance/specialty pharmacy side. I needed to keep on them/follow up with every step of the process. If you are genotype 1, interferon would be involved, in addition to the sovaldi/ribivirin. You will note on differing threads that there are folks on off-label used of Sovaldi/Olysio for genotype 1 and that some are waiting for the predicted October release of the sovaldi and ledipasivir fixed dose combo.

Good Luck. Hope is here. Joanne.

Are you guys only on sofaldi and riba. Is it a trial? Does your insurance cover it? Is interferon involved? Thanks!

On week 5 of 12 with S + R.  I have experienced very few sides at all.  About mid-week 2, I felt unusually winded from exercise I normally do.  My 2 wk blood test confirmed that my Hgb dropped like a stone from baseline.  Other than that, it’s been a calk walk (knock wood).  Hope it stays that way.

Whenever I feel the slightest bit odd or off, I drink down 32 oz of water and have found that that’s been very, very helpful.  My doctor’s recommendation was to drink half my body weight in ounces (for example, person weighing 100 lbs would need to drink 50 ounces of water daily) but I believe more than that works for me.

Good luck Patra!

V.

I finished 12 weeks of Sovaldi and Ribavirin on April 22. I had no side effects at all and was able to continue my XC skiing and cycling as normal. Some do have side effects like fatigue, headache and anemia but I have not heard about anything very severe with this treatment.

I am finished now and UND. Side effects were almost none. After shower itch and some fatigue in the last couple of weeks. My RBC count was down but it has since come up.Most don`t experience difficult sides but yes a few do.

I am should be starting treatment in about a week, on these Meds.  I see that you all have progressed nearly through or half way through.  how are side effects now?  How are you all feeling, and what are your results?
Thanks, Pat

Back from my end of 4 week Dr appointment.
All good.
Hemo down a bit. She expected a drop. But not critical.
Ultra sound on liver was good.
My viral load was only 3000 when originally detected so she is confident that the treatment should work.
I have no further appointments only bi-weekly blood draw until end of treatment.
I loaded up my scripts today so I`m ready to rock March .

A quick update: I am 10 days into the 12 week course of Sovaldi and Ribavirin. I feel fine. As a matter of fact I shoveled snow for 2 1/2 hours then XC skied for 4 hours today and I feel great...normal! So far this is like taking a multivitamin. I thought I would share this in case there's anyone out there that is nervous about starting. I saw somewhere that if blood levels are going to drop they do so in the first couple of weeks. I have my 2 week blood draw on Tuesday. I go to phlebotomy an hour before my appointment with the doc to have the blood drawn and he will have results when I see him.  Hope everyone is having a good day!  Dave

Hi Kirk, I looked at your profile and if I'm not mistaken you were on triple therapy with vitrecelis, This Sovaldi/Riibavirin regimen we are discussing is a whole other ball game....Did you get your SVR?

I never had any major side effects either.  I gained 20 lbs on treatment.  About three months into the treatment my doctor noticed some red spots on my skin and steroid cream cleared them up quickly.  I also got kind of irritable after a few months and lost about 20% of my hair over 7 months.

Some mild side effects might creep up on you but it appears that we are the lucky ones.

I am a week into the same routine...no sides to report here. From what I understand it can take a few weeks or maybe you won't have any sides at all. The side effects from this regimen, if you even have any, are generally mild, headache and fatigue are the most common.

Hope this helps
