feeling very scared, i was like you wrecking my head wondering were and how i got it, but in the long run it really dosent matter were or how. you jus need 2 focus on getting treatment and kicking some hep c butt.
all the best santa
I would agree with fretboard, particularly because the female prison population has a high rate of HCV as well and I've heard upwards of 80% which seems high .. so I wouldn't want to be quote on that, however.....the percentage compared to the general population is very high. I would also attribute that to IV drug use or cocaine drug use from snorting or sharing pipes.
I heard that 41% of the male prison population is infected with HepC. I would contribute that to IV drug use, and some to anal sex. I believe there are more drug addicts in prison than homosexuals but whatever the case that is the current percentage rate. I heard about it off a show on the prison system within the last month. God Bless
"Though this is not considered an STD and many couples who have been together for many years withoutt knowing they had HepC..and obviously not using any precautions...such as sharing razor blade, toothbrush, etc.. their husband/wife have tested negative."
Sorry about that...I lost my train of thought...
First...sorry about the news, it's quite a shock for all of us when we find out. 2nd...This is transmitted blood to blood from one person to another. 3rd..Though this is not considered an STD and many couples have been together for many years not knowing they had HepC..and obviously not using any precautions...such as sharing razor blade, toothbrush, etc..
I have heard that it is more easily transmitted by the sex you mentioned because that area can tear easier...something like that. The prison population does have a high rate of this vrus. Have you had a blood transfusion before 1992? That's a possibility as well. In the end, it doesn't matter hoe you got it...it's more important to find out if you have any liver damage...and what type of HepC (There are different genotypes...some easier to treat than others)...and getting in to see a Hepatologist preferably at a niversity Hospital. Treatment is ever ev9olving...and we all want our dr. to be aware of the new studies and trials and things of that nature. You have found a great forum for info. and support.
To your health!

Hepatitis C is transmitted by blood to blood contact, including sexual contact where there are open sores or abrasions on both partners. Prisoners have a much higher rate of infection than the general population.
