waking up in the morning is tough

Hello everyone; it's me Bill Strong.  Into my 9th month of TX and so far so good (still undetectable after my 1st 3 months of TX / starting out with a viral load of 14 million).  It's worse for me when I wake up in the morning (usually around 2 or 3am cause sleeplessness is a HUGE SX with me).  I wake up aching really bad and just crawling out of bed to make coffee.  Well, 1st I take my pain pills and when those kick in I start to feel better.  I admit that it very well could be withdrawal SX's that I feel when I wake up from the hydrocodone that I take daily.  I take a lot for body aches daily.  (180 a month / Vicoprophen)  I realize that I'll have to come off of these when my TX is over in January of 2008 along with the Ativan and the Valium that I use for sleep and my Doctor concurs.  My last shot will be 01/09/2008.  My habit with these pills quite honestly is the least of my worries with this disease.  They've helped me get thru the SX's tremendously and I wouldn't have treated without them.  Do any of you guys feel absolutely like **** when you wake up compared to other times of the day?  I miss talking to you guys!

some mornings are worse, no apparent reason,

although I have noticed that both sugar and protein intake affect it.

for some reason both these substance cause more general inflammation, and your liver is compromised enough with tx drugs it doesn't need huge amounts of high caloric values to deal with.

anyway my inflammation is worse if I've eaten these...too much glucose means feeling crummy.

of course, the mental issue is the real meany. I wake up, and my first thought is, oh goody, I get to take these pills and make myself sick again.  If I'm lucky I can shove some oatmeal down with the pills, and snore away the next 3 hrs while most of that upset comes and goes...but lets face it..nobody likes waking up to take things that make your insides churn.  It gets old.  OH well...at least you are most of the way through it!!

I have to tell you during TX I was super miserable with aches and pains that were unimaginably horrid.

And I use those words --- they don't even come close to the actual description of the pain that I went through --- and currently go through.

It IS very common for people with HCV to have extreme pain... For multiple reasons (lowered platelets, low iron, low exercise - Interferon excaberating genetically timed diseases such as diabetes, arthritis, etc..- at least in my humble opinion).

But after a year of serious pain POST TX - I finally broke down and ended up seeing an internist.

My chief complaints were:

Connective Tissue pain, bone aches --- muscles feeling Bruised all the time - sharp shooting pains in hands and feet - up to arms --- and a constant tightness from lower back to upper jaw.

Diagnosed with Neuropathy, Costochondritis and Fibromyalgia.

It took 6 months to get the diagnosis --- but what I also learned from my Internist is that these are COMMON.... repeat COMMON diseases for people with HCV.

So - that leads me to believe that HCV itself plays a role in damaging muscle tissues, connective tissues and more.

And the INF also causes problems... OR --- as a theory to put out there --- and it's my own theory --------- that AS THE HCV that the INF killed LEAVES your system, the HCV withdrawals from  your muscles, bones and connective tissues and they start the slow process of healing --- which is very painful --- remember growing pains?

Anyhow I believe that some of us get severe pains --- and they are NOT in our heads.

Please - see an Internist - confirm you are not getting arthritis - and have your doctor keep an eye on you - monitoring your pain...

It is a side effect - and I tell you what --- I would RATHER be addicted to pain medication for the rest of my life - vs feeling the pains that can be caused.

Yanno?

Anyhow --- my doctor put me on ULTRAM 200 one in the morning and ULTRAM 100 one at night.

And they are a synthetic Oxycodone - which can make some folks loopy at first - but they didn't do anything to me but take the pain away.

As long as I keep them going in the proper order - and I don't forget - I live pain free and feel great.

The moment I skip one - I have a rotten day - and I can barely move...

Anyhow - I wanted to tell you - you are so not alone.

Much love - glad you are posting --- go have an extra cup of coffee for me!

Good luck Bill, I know personally how hard it can be to kick pills but how crucial the meds are when you need them.

Haven't seen you post in a while. Anyway, when I was treating I would wake up take 2 advil and make a cup of hot coffee to make it hit me quicker. I ached so much when I woke up I couldn't raise my left arm to put the coffee cup in the microwave. I would have to lift it with my right arm.
You are on a lot of medications but if you SVR it will all be worth it.

Good luck to you, your'e in the home stretch.
