Recently diagnosed to HepC, and awaiting Peg. treatment

I was diagnosed in April, and I've got the worst genotype you can get apparently. It's been tough to accept, but I'm ready to start treatment, I think, the side effects sound horrible. It hasn't been without roadblocks, I asked one of my bosses at work to look into the possiblilty of a layoff happening at work, because I was to start treatment shortly, and wouldnt be able to afford pegatron treatment without the work drugplan, well, by the end of shift that day, I found myself fired.. can you believe it? Their excuse was that "with the cost of benefits so high they regretfully have to let me go."I never told them what I was sick with, but they did know it was something pretty serious, as I had presented them numerous times with medical certificates from the specialist from days I was just too sick to be at work. So now, I have no benefits, and so I couldn't start my treatments. I'm waiting for Pegcare and Trillium group to help me out. It's been mentally the most stressful time I've been through, and for my wife too. Now I don't know if I should do this treatment or not, and would love to know if anyone has ever been through this from an employer. I makes one feel like a leper.

I hate to hear your company fired you. I believe you can file legal action against them for letting you go because of a medical condition . Treatment is a tough road to travel. I wish you well on your journey.

You can pay for Cobra. That is what I am doing now to continue coverage. Also Committment to Care will give you tx drugs for free if you make under 70 grand a year.

Depending on your biopsy results, if you need to tx now, since you aren't working it might be a good time to start. That is what I decided to do, since I wasn't working and I could extend benefits with cobra. Can't you get unemployment ins. if you are fired? Also you might check into SS.

Just checked my post, thanks for the verbal support regarding my firing because of the fact that I'm sick. I live in Canada, and I am seeking legal action for being dismissed because I'm sick. I've applied for unemployment benefits, and my nurse practioner that was about to teach me how to do my pegatron injections gave me a number to call(PegCare), and they help you get help through a government agency called the Trillium group to help you get treatment without the financial burden. Has anyone gone this route, and if so, how did it work out for you?

Several people go through these co. and have reported how wonderful they are. Sorry to hear about the job. That really is crummy. Have you thought of a lawyer?
