Congrats on being so organized. I began a lab spread sheet on my computer. It makes it easy to see how I'm doing.
Good luck going forward.
sounds like some really good advice there. I will be heading home tomorrow from working in New Orleans, La. getting rested up for the BIG day. got me a binder started with all my information even with tabs lol Be talking to everyone soon.. Thanks so much for this site and my friends on here
Yes, exactly...I have tons of extra Ribasphere in my cupboard, along with rubbing alcohol, q-tips ( I aplleid the alcohol this way, where I injected the Inf, becuz the alcohol wipes dried out my finger-tips, plus..less chance for cross-contamination)..and of course, my bandaids!
Wayyy up high, in the cupboard, used for pots and pans, where a kid cant reach, I kept my syringes, for the rescue drug I used for my hemolytic anemia, which is called Procrit.
I cleared out and thoroughly cleaned and sterilyzed a section of my kitchen, to administer my meds in the proper fashion!
Debbie, make sure you get one of those monthly square pill containers, and load your daily amount of riba pills, in each day of the week. This way, if you cant remember if you just took yr pills or not (and it does happen), you can do a pill count in the day of the week you are on. My calendar pil container is made by Pharmadose, and was child-proof.
I also used an annoying jingle alarm, on my cell phone, set to go off every 8 hrs, to remind me to take my meds. I never traveled more then an hour away from home, in case I did forget my meds!
"The Riba just needs to be kept in the cubboard."
Lion, tigers, bears, oh my...."cupboard"....:*)
Good luck with your tx Debbie!

Just make sure your Interferon injections are refridgerated, and well protected. I put mine in tupper-ware, for extra protection, since Ihave kids going into my fridge.
The Riba just needs to be kept in the cubboard. Good luck with your
up-coming Tx, I'm so happy for you :)
Yes, it's a very good idea to prepare for your "Treatment Journey", the same way you would prepare for a very difficult back-packing trip. You want your immune system as strong as possible. If you can get your hands on fresh fruit and veggies, these are the best and most safe sources of vitamins~
Mine was set up like that as well debbiemac.......it came over nighted in a refrigerated parcel. It's not weird...
Wow, good to hear it, and it doesn't sound funny. I was excited to start. I just wanted the virus gone. Supplements I took are listed, not all for immune system though. I did research on what supplements could potentially improve chance of UND/SVR ans potentially help with sx. Many of these I also took pre treatment. Always talk things over with your Dr before starting any supplements.
B complex with 5000ug B12 (sublingual), some say it has to be shots but idk.
Vitamin C, D and E.
SAMe
Bee pollen
Green and white tea (I drank 4 cups a day)
Good luck adn again congrats.
Hey Deb! Congrats on finally getting started. I know you have been waiting forever. I agree with everyone above in getting your Vit D and thyroid checked. My Vit D levels were low but within the normal range. And my Dr said to take the Vit D supplement because of what OH posted above pertaining to "poor treatment response".
Let us know how your doing!

SUMMARY: Vitamin D supplementation increased the likelihood of sustained response to pegylated interferon plus ribavirin therapy for chronic hepatitis C, leading researchers to suggest that vitamin D deficiency may help explain well-known racial/ethnic disparities in treatment response, according to a presentation at the 45th Annual Meeting of the European Association for the Study of the Liver (EASL 2010) last month in Vienna. A recently published related study found that low vitamin D levels were associated with more severe liver fibrosis and poor treatment response.
Talk to your doc about having your vitamin D and thyroid (TSH) level checked prior to beginning tx. If you are deficient in vitamin D, you should supplement since its been shown to provide benefits along with increased rate of SVR. Both of these levels can be affected by the meds.
Once you begin tx, be sure to drink plenty of water to stay hydrated. It helps to offset the sides and the changes to your skin. Apply lotions daily. Avoid the heat if possible since it can trigger a rash which can easily get out of control. Fortunately, we will soon be going into the cooler months and this won't be as much of an issue. Good luck and visit this forum often. There are many great people here to help guide you through.
Hey glad things are falling into place for you! It looks as if you will be home about a week prior to starting treatment. I saw in one of your other posts how your training day is on 9 Oct so I gather your doctor's appointment on that date is your treatment start date. In my case, both times I treated was also the day I had my baseline labs. Ha I remember the first time I got sick on the way home (never happened again) - as I look back maybe it was nerves.
Remember you still have to follow a fairly decent eating habits with the Riba as it helps to take it with a bit of fat. I rarely hear that mentioned anymore but back in the day,:
"A high-fat meal increased relative bioavailability by a factor of 1.46"
http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC1804105/
Sometimes I take my morning dose with juice and invariably I have rumbly tumbly two hours later.

Be sure to post and remember you don't have to go through this alone :)
definitely getting plenty of exercise with the job, but with the heat and working 12-14 hr days just dont feel like eating much. So definitely will get some vitamins. My old bones already hurting .. lol.
No, it doesn't sound weird to me.
Take a good multivitamin without iron, vitamin D and calcium.
Tx is hard on our bones.
Don't get too thin, it's easy to lose weight on tx.
Just eat a healthy diet and keep exercising.
