Still Crazy after all these years.

Hello,
i had HepC and my viral load was piling up faster than my savings.  Tried numerous holistic methods to the extreme of having ALL mercury fillings removed, quit wearing metal, lived in tepee, etc.  My count came back over 2Mil so no more time left, was forced to do the Peg/Rib trmt.  The best part of it was when it was over.  i endured the entire 47 weeks with the aid of many narcotics that i was glad to be rid of.   It has been over 10 years and i have not had a regular job, just can't do it.  My eye sight, my precious eye sight pretty much gone.  Hearing.  Joint aches.  Irritability.  However, i am still Alive after the doctor told me 40 was not an option just his 47 last week.  Does anyone know if i can get disability?  A little extra petty cash would sure help.  Many times i feel i should have been offered permanent disability but all the doctors have plenty of money and can not understand what my problem is.  Was even told once to be a sheep herder.  Nice.  i do not drink any alcohol, smoke anything or any other type of drugs, except Vitiam I aka ibuprophen.  Any input appreciated!!!  Also any questions will be answered.
Thanks for taking the time to read about my little story.
Kim

I agree, you should definitely apply, and then refuse to be easily discouraged. The Social Security department's own statistics show that 53% of the applications are denied, while outside reports say 65% of first applications are denied. I think that indicates that a good number are approved on appeal. I wish they would be more reasonable and fair about it, but at least it helps to know the game they are playing and to keep coming back.

Good answer to donesince02. Apply if it is needed. If denied apply again! Then if it becomes apparent you can't get it done, get a lawyer. It will cost nothing up front but if the lawyer wins he takes his fee, usually fom the lump sum back pay that is granted from the first application / denial..
A good disability attorney knows if the case is worth it right from the beginning or he would not take the case.

Cando is right that the social security doctor has to agree your disabled.  If you apply you will be sent to a  Social Security doctor.  The doctor will decide if you are disabled enough to receive Social Security Disability Insurance.
You should apply if you feel your disabled.  Don't be shocked if your denied the first time.  This seems to be common. See a lawyer who will prove you representation based on the outcome of your disability claim.  Many require no money up front.  You will never know if you can get SSI if you don't apply.

Get that application in...Good Luck

If doctors back up your claim that your eyesight is pretty much gone along with your hearing, this along with your other issues should not be a problem getting permanent disability. The thing is there are tests that are done to determine these things so not only does your doctors have to agree but so would any Social Security  doctors they send you to. They will not just go on what you say........... Good luck
