Regarding the "whole drug use thing".  If someone wants to do drugs in a way that is destructive to their life and goes away into the woods somewhere and does drugs (and I include excessive alcohol here as well) until they drop and nobody gets hurt by it then I say more power to them and they're not hurting anyone but themselves and they have the right to do what they want with their lives and their bodies.

But as we all know it rarely works that way.

Addicts end up being emotionally and mentally changed by their addiction and they begin to make wrong decisions.  Selfish decisions that are merely based on getting more addictive substance.

Addicts end up hurting those who loved them by their self-serving behaviors.

Addicts many times resort to crime in order to finance their habit (because when the job goes South, somethings got to pay for the substance)

Addicts destroy their bodies and then end up in health care situations (physical and/or mental ) that everyone else has to pay for (like that old Dallas star who was a severe alcoholic and got his liver transplant - instead of some poorer person).

Addicts spread disease when they no longer have enough self-respect to protect  themselves or anyone else around them.

Those are just four reasons why I am not against drug use per se but very much against people who cannot control their bad behavior and by that I mean active addicts..  those are some of the reasons that I think that the "whole drug use thing" is many times not a good thing

In sincerity, we could be spreading the story for ourselves.  You know, "the serenity to change the things I cannot accept" is not just part of a motto.  In the great history of moral dilemmas, this should not be one of them.

Yes, I absolutely agree that those of us who got hcv from using IV drugs, if we decide to be open about our behavior, might induce other IV drug users to get tested.

But people who never used drugs still believe that hcv could never happen to them, and so they never get tested.  We have to get the message across that anybody can get this disease.

You know I was thinking, about this whole drug use thing.  I just dont see that it is a bad thing, I mean its bad for the person doing it, and thats bad enough, but is it as bad as say the realtor that screws you when you buy a house? is it as bad as the employer who abuses his employees because he can, is it as bad as all the white collar crime that devestates peoples lives?  I mean really why is it so bad as to create this horrific stigma?  I know that really strung out druggies do horrible things to themselves and their loved ones, but ........ why dont the folks that start wars, screw their customers, walk over street people have as bad a rap as people who did drugs.?  I really resent being controlled by the status quo, but controlled I am... I always thought in some cultures beauty may not be determined by the Barbie Doll look, maybe it would be determined by how someone treats others.   anyway.,,, I wish you all the best outcome..M4now

Lotto would be nice, wouldn't it.  So the pic -- it was before your txed?  I guess clearing hep C wasn't enough for him.  Shame about the rehab

Yes - Steven has kept his SVR status (as far as I heard I have not heard opposite I did try to contact him a few months back but he did not answer and then I found out he was in rehab so I guess that's why).

I wish I could just call him on the phone and say "Hey Steven what's up with that SVR status" but unfortunately...I don't have the lotto either! ;)

Look at it this way -- it is important for people to know that things like that happen because of what we did in the past but that  is what it is -- a part of the past.  It would be worse to me if she lied and said she got it from a pedicure.  I have read reports by people in or on the fringes of the rock and roll industry with hep C who deny IVDU activity.  That is fine - it is saving face -- but get real - I don't believe them.   I myself, to some people save face and say I probably got it from a blood transfusion. (That is possible but not probable).  I admire Natalie Cole and Steven Tyler and Greg (?) Almond's honesty.

Lets face it, it is the reason the majority of folks have hep C.Perhaps it taints hep C for those of you who really don't know how you got it or got it thru transfusions, but if it opens the eyes of someone who need treatment, that is a good thing.

Boy I so agree with you...when I read that today my first thought was now I really am not sure I want people to know...I find it interesting how there is never much mentioned about the disease itself.... wish there was more education out there...sure would make life easier for all of us.

Most people will not even give it a second thought believing that could never happen to them.... so many of us never knew unitl years later that we have it....should be a standard blood test when you get blood work done yearly....

I think it's terrific that she has allowed the press to announce this, but I wish somebody famous who didn't use IV drugs would make an announcement.  This just perpetuates the image and makes non-IVD users believe that they're exempt and don't need to be tested.

Still, I can only wish the best for her.  She has an amazing voice and an amazing heritage.

Didn't they synch her voice and her dad's voice for "Undetectable".  Maybe I'm confusing it with Eyedeas' version.

Good for her.  Sounds like she is UND and currently treating.  Here's hoping she gets SVR.

Hey, that picture of you and Steven Tyler -- was taht taken recently?  Has he retained his SVR?  (or am I totally nuts and that is not who that is?????
