For Newbie Screaming48

My Dr hasn't said anything about an ekg or stress test, he has listened to my chest the three times I 've seen him. When I first found out about this the hep c he also told me I had high iron and could have hemachromotosis, and that I also was a carrier for a gene that predisposed me to copd and emphsema, at that time he also wanted a chest xray and I looked at him like he was crazy, I mean I got told all at once I had hep c, maybe hemachromotosis, and a gene carrier, I said not right now let all this sink in first. I mean thats alot of crap for someone to take in all at once. I didnt want a chest xray to show that I might have something else (yes I was scared) anyway do I need an ekg?

Had EKG nurse said looked good, also asked GP about my Welbutrin if maybe it needed to be increased, told her some of the drugs could cause major depression and she upped my dosage right away, I feel better getting some of this done now before tx as you can tell I am person that plans ahead, drives my husband nuts lol. But I feel better getting it done that way I wont be surprised later. I just very badly want to respond to the drugs and go svr as quickly as I can.. Have already bought the gold bond lotion too, and eucerin just in case. Thanks for the HUGZ same back at you!

I'm glad to hear it! Good for you for asking. Establishing a baseline EKG will be useful if anything ever does happen involving your heart as now your Dr will have something to compare to. Keep us posted on the rest of your findings! (((((((((((HUGZ))))))))))~MM

Talked to my GP today, and go in for EKG tomorrow. I did ask her about it and she thought it was a good idea as my grandfather, uncle, had heart attacks in their 40s and my Dad had a small stroke at 52 and Mom had a heart stent at 68. So am getting that out of the way before tx. She dosn't forsee any problems though.

Hey guys lost the thread (sorry) I will start treatment end of July last vl was 13.9 milllion, I do not have hemochromotosis, Medicmommy you welcomed me back in April thank you, I know I am a carrier for the gene, but all the same I quit smoking because I needed to anyway especially when I treat. I have just been filtering through all the forums and reading on different things and did wonder about the ekg. my Dr is a GI & Hepatologist and my GP thinks he is wonderful, he actually wasn't going to accept any more hep c patients but took me on because he likes my GP and no nothing going on there lol. I adore her myself and wish I had found her years ago.  I am ok guys just trying to learn all I can and I know it wont matter how stupid my questions are someone here will answer them and I am truly thankful for this forum, thanks guys for answering will ask the Doc about the ekg, although my GP says I am as healthy as a horse except for the liver ha ha.That maybe why they haven't done an ekg, they both don't think I need one.

Hi!
I started your own thread for you so it doesn't get buried.

Hi Screaming,
Ah, can I identify...I found out I had Hep c during a non-related surgical follow-up. The Dr said," Now that we have this problem taken care of, we should address your Hep C." I told him I didn't have Hep C, he repeated that I did. -I actually argued with him and then I demanded proof (talk about denial!).

While you are going through all this other testing, a simple 12-lead EKG (thorough heart scan) would be a good idea -even if you haven't made up your mind if you want to tackle the Hep C or not. It will give your Drs something to compare to if you ever need it in the future. Remember, Hep C is a disease of DECADES. IF you have hemochromotosis, it is most likely a side effect of liver stress and it has been there a long time.

So, on the other things-give yourself some time and let this sink in. -Don't panic -it isn't the end of the world. Hemochomotosis is a big word that simply means you have too many red blood cells in your blood stream. It will give you some symptoms and puts you at higher risk for certain problems, but it is very managable.

-IF you have this and Hep C (have you been tested for a viral load? -If not, you could just have the antibodies and it is not active) then you manage it. Simple. The world is not going to end tomorrow and you have time to manage them and go on with life. Just because you have a genetic carrier to a disease does not mean you will develop it. -It simply means you are "predisposed" (have a higher chance) of it. You could be niney by the time it happens, if it happens.
So, things you can do right now to regain a bit of control -take a deep breath (let it out) and start the next chapter in your life today. Take note of the good things you are surrounded with, and how you are blessed. Squash the panic, throw a brief pity party, and then educate yourself. Knowledge is power and a good guard against inept Drs! If you have active Hep C, seek out a hepatologist -much better than a GP or GI Dr.
Well, enough info for now.

Think of what is REALLY important to you, and reprioritize your life. Think of this summer as your start to better health.
