I used to like Anne Rice....remember the movie with Brad Pitt and Tom Cruise (before he got weird)
I remember those Cave Bear books. Never got into them, but I do remember them. Lisa Scottoline, I read one of hers, can't remember at this point, but it was good. How about Anne Rice, the series about the witches in New Orleans? Those were good, really strange, but good.
Loved Plum Spooky. Her series are the ones that you can pick up any of them. You don't have to read them in order. They're all fun.
Loved the Twilight series, too. Next, I'm looking for the books that the HBO series True Blood is based on.
Ok...the alphabet books I was talking about are by Sue Grafton...the Kinsey Milhone series...they are like Janet Evanovich books. Great mindless drivel...love it!!!
This goes waaaayy back, but did y'all ever read the Clan of the Cave Bear series by Jean M Auel?
I'll get Look Again. Which Evanovitch should I start with?
I am reading Lisa Scoottoline's "Look Again" its a good one.
I could not read at all while treating.
I also read the Twighlt series, (i know its for the teens, but a girl can pretend)
Love Janet Evanovich too!!!
I'm waiting on the new Stephanie Plum to arrive (Janet Evanovich). I pre-ordered through Amazon. I'm reading the latest "between the numbers", Plum Spooky now. I had $25 gift cert from my Amazon Visa. I just finished Jackie Collins' latest Hollywood trash novel, Drop Dead Beautiful. I just love that kind of stuff. I need totally mindless stuff to break the cycle of seriousness that goes with college. A little off topic, but you should see what Jackie Collins looks like at 72. OMG! Definitely had some plastic, but hers was very well done. She looks fantastic.
I cannot start the day without my newspaper. About midway thru tx, they started piling up and I would try to get caught up. My new rule is....if I don't read immediately, into the recycle bin.
Defo staying with the simple stuff.
After EOT, I'll have a 6 month break after this semester, before nursing starts....I'll need the time to clear the fog, lol!!
I've always read at bedtime to get my brain to switch from day to night. Everything I've read has been easy to read on treatment except the one I'm reading now, Cormac McCarthy's 'Blood Meridian'. I've read it before, recall being blown away by it but also that the writing style of that book was very different and 'literary'. Pages sometimes had to be reread to get the full meaning. I'm going to have to go to bookstore and get something simpler and come back to 'Blood Meridian'.
I live for the newspaper and have started doing both the sudoku and the crytoquote (haven't done those in years). I know I don't currently have the brain function to be able to work a crossword so those logic & elimination puzzles are very satisfying.
OMGosh....loved King Rat. I love those books so much I have them in a display on top of an armoire in the den, lol! Yeah, Grisham is off my must read list.
I just started My Sister's Keeper last night.....very good.
How about Janet Evanovitch? She has the numbers series...One for the Money, ect....and then that other one... the alphabet series...A is for Alibi, ect. Loved those....fun quick reads.
In microbiology last semester there was alot of talk about Crichton...I'm tempted to re-read some of those oldies but goodies.
Francine Rivers writes Christian fiction. Her Mark of the Lion series is the best I have ever read...ya just have to get past the war part of the first one....then it is a love/betrayal/lost/found love type of story. I am a biblical history buff and enjoy reading about how life really was back then. And she has a series about the women back then-like Marie, Bathsheba, Rebekka, but told from their perspectives....really cool.
Winner......Focus?? Oh, heck no....there's really no focus..I just need something to help me fall asleep at 2am. =)
I dont know about books {during tx} its a miracle you can keep focused ! I started having the local paper delivered .It comes between 5 /6 am ,giving me a nice quiet hour and a half to relax ,before getting daughter" off to school " how about kates new book ? {jon & kate plus 8 } lol bob
I thought I'd be reading alot more these past months, but then eye probs and of course, the extreme fatigueoften got in the way. Starting to catch up now though....I lean more to bios and reflective books. Just finished 'One Month to Live - Thirty Days to a No-Regrets Life' by Kerry and Chris Shook. Tonite starting 'Unknown Soldiers - Reliving World War II in Europe' by Joseph Garland.
Still, my favorite book and the one that had the biggest impact on me is 'Eat, Pray, Love by Elizabeth Gilbert. If I have a good read, I can escape from even the most miserable sx-filled day..........
Read Clavell's 'King Rat", too. May have been 1st book. I gave up on Grisham a long time ago. Who is Francine Rivers?
I'm reading Grishams "The Appeal". I'm shocked at how bad it is....and I don't think it's the meds, either =)
I'm dying for a good read...classic like James Clavell's "Shogun" or "Gai-Jin"
Or anything by Francine Rivers.
