I had several b-12 shots and took the sublingual also while on treatment. I would have loved to give myself the shots but they are inter-muscular and that was crossing the line for me and the shot giving. I never got used to giving myself the interferon shots. I really think the B12 made me feel better.
Ok.... GI not going to give you B-12 shots. So today I went to my GP.
Got a B-12 shot. My GI office said to go to the GP for B-12. So I'll let
you know the results tomorrow.
I find the shots, 1 ml per week, to be much more effective and longer lasting than the pills. I was taking 6, 2.5 mg per day. The pills really did nothing for me.
That's just me.
It makes me feel good, and anything that can do that on this Tx is welcome.
I don't understand why Dr don't want to prescribe B-12 injections???? We are on Interferon already? It's not like we don't give ourselves injections already!
With all the conclusive findings on B-12, and HCV Tx, I could see it as part of Tx and Post Tx.
Is the difference between the capsules and the shots just a matter of absorption time? My doc told me I could go ahead with B-12 Vitamins but didn't see the need of the shots. Confusing.
Yes b, but there are so many that might be unaware who could benefit from this information. Worth repeating every so often. Congrats on the SVR btw. :-)
B12 ?
.......... been there done that...... :-)
b
See if you can get the injections.................world of difference! Really!
My GP ordered test for Vit B-12 a few weeks ago. At least somebody
knows what there doing.
I saw the article in Science Magazine the other day and decided to start popping Vit B-12. Looks very promising. Thanks for posting
Jules
I know, I just wish I would have known sooner................today is the best day I have had since start of TX. I took a B-12 shot yesterday! Wahoooooooo! I actually feel HUMAN again!
Hey thanks great article :)
Here's another perspective from a Science magazine
http://www.medicaldaily.com/news/20120717/10919/vitamin-b12-hepatitis-c-drug-treatment.htm
It starts out like this:
"Adding Vitamin B12 to hepatitis C virus treatments significantly improved the body's ability to keep the virus at bay, according to a new study.
The new study, published online in the journal Gut, found that the effects of B12 were particularly strong in patients whose infections had become difficult to treat"
