why would you say that drinking could cause a relaspe?

if you drink before before the 6 months are up after you finished tx....you are not even techniallcy SVR  yet....see my reasoning?

I have to ask this question...why would you say that drinking could cause a relaspe? My understanding is that if the tx worked it worked..the worry would be that if you had relasped and within that 6 month waiting period you drank then of course you could be causing more damage to the liver.. but if the tx worked then it worked?

I have seen this questioned asked before and that is my understanding?

Thanks...p.s. drinking on tx is crazy.... I did read where people have drank thru out tx and reached SVR.... of course we all agree that would be insane....

I went undetected after 2 Months and still undetectable after 5 Months of Tx, however if I have the a drink I fell pain on my right side next day. I was diagnosed with genotype 3 and fibrosis befure tx started.

Good Luck on you tx.

I have no intentions of stopping tx early....i was just a question that popped into my mind.....the only way ill stop early is when they pry my cold dead hands from the PEG redi-pen in my right and the RIBA bottle in my left

Just to clear up terminology confusion:\
SVR (sustained viral response) is a term applied to someone who 6 months after treatment ends exhibits undetectable levels of virus.    You do NOT do SVR after xsome umber of weeks of treatment.  You go Undetectable - but not SVR.

Going undetectable does not guarantee SVR.  If you stop treatment early, even though you are undetectable, you stand a relatively high risk of relapsing and never going SVR.

Becoming undetectable early on (4 weeks) is called RVR (rapid viral response) and it is a good indication that you can eventually achieve SVR.  But stopping treatment after going undetectable after 4 weeks pretty much guarantees the virus will come back (ie.  you will not achieve SVR after 6 months).

SVR means that 6 months after you stop treatment your virus levels remain undetectable.  Stopping treatment early, regardless of whether you are undetectable or not, means that you are likely to never achieve SVR.

Knew another geno 3e who had to stop at 16 weeks becase of drops in CBC that epo and neupo couldn't control and was still clear 6 months post and a geno 1 who stopped at 6 months because of bad psych sides and was still clear years later. Not many.

I know of a woman who took 9 weeks of TX earlier this year and had to stop because her WBCs were very messed up and Neupogen didn't help her.  She tested at 3 mos post TX and was still UNDIE at that time.  She has not yet had her 6 month test but soon will.

I know someone who had to stop txing at 9 weeks (she was 1a) and still has SVR...It's been 2 years...When I was 3 weeks into txing, I was having sides, but I suddenly felt "better"...the only way I can describe this is that I felt like a weight had been lifted off of me...At week #4 I was tested and UND...and have been since...And today is the day...I go in for my 6 month post PCR...I may just commit Hari Kari if I've relapsed! I'm pretty sure all is well, but when you're 44 and post tx, there's always little niggling worries..(Like what's causing that tiny intermittent sore spot in the area of my liver?...and why am I getting intermittent joint pains again? Is it just because of winter and minor fallout from other stuff? Am I tired because of working lots and not exercising as much as I should? Etc. etc...) I guess I'll know by next week...I know the odds are in my favor...:) ~Melinda

Rocker, you've got me thiinking now........

I don't take any pond scum, stem enhance or whey, but I did reinvest in a juicer prior to tx and make a fresh green/veggie drink each day....nothing specific, just whatever I have on hand, romaine, celery, spinach, kale, cukes, carrots but always organic and with a slice of lemon and fresh ginger so it's more palatable for me.....and I feel great! I was starting to question whether the meds were working or not, and still have to wait two weeks for the first VL, but especially the last two days, I've felt better than before tx.

I know it's still plenty early in the game for me, but you may be on to someting here!

All I know is that I'm not gonna rock the boat at this point....Pam

One person on my Vertex trial dropped out around week 10 and went on to SVR.  She was getting telaprevir + SOC.  She dropped out because of the dreaded rash.

She was age in her 20's and had a low vl to start with, around 78000 I think.  I don't know any more about her stats except she must have been geno 1 to be on the trial.

dointime.
PS I ust have missed the details of that pond scum you mention.  Would you please point me at the relevant thread or pm me on the one you feel helped you.  Thanks.
