Major test tomorrow

I am at week 12 of tx with Infergen and tomorrow I will be given the important lab test. If my Viral load is at zero (or very close to zero) I get to continue tx for another 36 weeks. Oh boy!! If my viral load is not close to zero, they will be putting me on the donor list. I never thought I would hope for 36 more weeks of this junk. Its been 2 months since I did the San Fransisco Marathon and I really miss training for the next one. But this stuff has really affected my energy level. My hemoglobin went under 9 a couple of weeks ago and my oncologist raised the level of my Procrit to 40K. It hasn't done much toward increasing my energy level yet but maybe soon. Other than lack of energy tx is not affecting me too much. I have a stomach ache most of the time but that is no big deal. I lost a lot more hair the last time I was on tx than I have this time. I guess my body is building up an immunity. Anyway, I will let you all know the results of the test on Monday or Tuesday of next week. Wish me luck!

It sounds to me like you should be talking to them about raising that procrit or letting you do it twice a week instead of one big shot - that worked the best for me.  It does take a while for procrit to work you know, 2 - 6 weeks unfortunately.

Good luck with the test we'll be waiting to hear that you the gold star at the top!

Did you see the recent post about alinia? Alinia is a drug that's already FDA approved and is already available. Alinia wasn't originally intended to be used as an HCV antiviral, but apparently recent testing has demonstrated it to be a powerful antiviral for HCV (for geno 4, but is believed to work on other genotypes too). We're still waiting for the complete cat to be let out of the bag as far as test results with it. But if I were in the situation of only having two choices, one being successful treatment after previous treatment failures, and the other being transplant...then I'd be looking into taking alinia right away (along with continuing IFN+riba). And I mean right away.

In the meantime keeping fingers crossed for an UND, best of luck.
