Meds Finally Here! YIKES!!!!!

LOL...yeah, be careful what you wish for huh? and i was complaining about a hold-up...the Alinia is being delivered too ...anyway, I guess I gotta squirrel some away for a rainy day right? they deliver a month's worth at a time..guess I'm going to pre-load with the alinia for about a week anyway, that way I can tell if it's going to give me any sides, etc...if they do too much, might rethink taking it...also to distinguish which sides are from what, etc...so, I have to find out how to give myself shots, is there an online place I can see a video? think there is...also maybe get a lesson...also have to figure out when I should take my shot...have bad insomnia sometimes so I'd like to take the riba earlier then later...better go do some deep breathing, HA HA HA HA!

Hello!
The anxieties in the days before starting are THE WORST! I'm now at day #3 and feeling light sides...Anxiety is gone...My electric blankie and a good book are my best friends when the chills start up...And I had to take a bit of tylenol day #2 because of aches...
When I was at my Drs. office, I was given a "Pegasys kit" which consisted of a sharps container, a "how to" dvd, a nylon insulated zipper bag with a cold pack (for travel) and bandaids, alcohol pads, and I think, some tylenol...(Somebody's making money off this stuff!) If you have any specific questions with the injections, I may be able to help...I've given lots of shots...
Oh, I'm picking up belly dancing again!  Something fun for me to look forward to...LOL....Peace for you in the days to come...You'll be fine...

Hi,
When you're ready for your first shot, should your NP remain unwilling to give you a demo lesson, I'll be happy to come over and help.  You're going to be amazed; it doesn't hurt!

It's sort of like when I had my ears pierced (by a friend's husband, using an ice cube for anesthesia) and I asked, "When are you going to do it?" he replied, "i already did."  These are eentsy-beentsy needles, kind of like acupuncture needles in size, and at the very worst, one out of fifty times, it might sting a little.  If you can sew a hem, you can give yourself an injection.

Hey I was thinking maybe we should plan a Southern California get together soon - seems we have quit a few buddies in this area. What do you a think? I could have it at my house.

Good Luck. You can go on line type in Pegasys video and you can see how to administer shots. Thats how I learned.

Hope its a minimal sx journey!

It isnt that bad the 1st shot, you'll be surprised how easy it is.
Now that i have said that, my nurse made me sit thru some video demonstrating how to do the injection. I was somewhat over confident (it was my 2nd Tx after all) and I thought the video was was quite boring and didnt pay much attention.
Just as well the nurse was there cause I would have messed it up.
Couldnt figure out how to hold the needle one handed.
But once you get used to it easy as Pie.

I have finally collected most of the Pills on HRs list. Just got to pick up the Resveratrol and i can tell ya i am pretty nervous about starting. Weird ay. I am just not a Pill person.
Although I probably am something that rhyms with pill.

Enjoy the ride

Forsee...wow...launch time!!  I wish you all the best....you just need to *breathe* a bit...you know all this stuff....you'll sort it out.  I wish you all the best!!!  We really ARE starting about the same time.  :)

Mikki....if you're going to plan a CA gathering...if I manage to make it to San Diego end of April to visit my son, hopefully we could do one then?  It would be a BLAST to meet up with all the CA folks who are able.  I'll let you know when it gets closer if I'm going to make it down and we'll see how it goes?

Cocksparrow, are you starting up now also?  You've been through this before, yes?

Well...... it looks like you are ready, or almost ready.

Good luck with your new endeavor.  You've done all the legwork, investigation and now all that remains is to pick the start date.  I'm glad that you took a break and had a nice vaction before starting.

You've got many friends who will be here for you when you get going.  You can certainly do it.

Go get em.

You guys get a "kit"?  I never got any cool paraphenalia with the drugs!  Guess you have a better insurance plan. 4C, you will be fine after the first one for sure. You should read a good book while on tox to keep your mind off the sides. I recommend "Liberal Fascism" by Jonah Goldberg....... If you dare.

Great!!  I'm so happy for you that you are starting your treatment!!

Don't be afraid!  Over the years, I've learned to do my shots even in a car in my arm or leg (for example, in the parking lot of the lab after giving my blood for a test).

Regarding your question about delivery of the meds -- if I had a choice I would rather pick it up then a delivery -- I always worried about improper cooling, packaging, exposure to sun, etc. -- but I should say that my pharmacy company never messed up the delivery -- so I worried for nothing! :-)

All the best all the way to SVR!!!

I got my kit directly from my GI. He gave it to me before I left his office with the Scripts. As far as when to take your shots, it really depends. I take my shots on Saturday about 11am and I feel my best on Saturday and Sunday. I don't feel lousy until it builds up in my system on Tues. and Wed.
You could try Sunday nights and see how you feel. If it takes a few days to affect you then you could slowly move it back a few hrs. a week until you do it on Sat.

Hi,

If you are taking Pegasys their website is very informative on the medications and on how to do the injections.  They even have a video that is actually worth watching -- I must have watched it 3 or 4 times!  :-)  They have step-by-step instructions too that I printed and then condensed onto an index card that I use each time I inject.

The URL is pegasys.com

Hope this helps!

Angie,

I can understand feeling apprehensive the first time.  But, after a month or so, you'll be an old pro at it and wonder why you ever fretted about it so much!  Trust me in this.  You'll adapt pretty quick.  I think that you should just bite the bullet and go for it!

Blessings,

Susan

High anxiety with the 1st shot.  iam an R.N. but when it came to injecting myself i wouldnt do it hard enough and it bounced off my skin leaving a tiny hole, had to inject again so double the pain. LOL catch back for all the injections i have given to others. You will do fine and soon be a pro at it  Wishing you all the best with your TX.

thanks so much for all the responses! guess I had a minor freak out last night (duuuuuhhhh) lol....I'm going to take to heart all the things you have said...and just try to relax and go shopping! a great way to relax! and watch some old movies too...

I do live in a high traffic area so I was wondering about having them delivered, I have heard pro and con, but mostly pro...it would be great to have them delivered, I'm a delivery type person, here, you can have everything delivered, groceries, anything, do most of my shopping online...then I go out to do things I like instead of errands...but if there are real problems with delivery, I'll go pick them up...so sorry for my stupid measly questions...I'm calming down....

Relax, its normal to be apprehensive about this, especially when you have been reading and hearing about it for years and suddenly its your turn.  You'll do fine and in a couple of weeks it will be a real ho-hum sort of thing.

I get my meds delivered and never had any problems, besides I'm never sure that I'll be able to get out for pickup (snows in the northeast and also just not able to get off the couch some days).

You won't really be sure of the timing of sx til you've been at this a while.  Then, as soon as you have it figured out it will probably change!  Be sure to stock up on ativan, I find it helps me more than I could have imagined.

I'll be thinking about you and wishing you all the best.  Be sure to keep updating the gang about how it goes.

Now get out there and slay that dragon.  You're armed and dangerous now so lookout Hep C!!!

I know what you mean. . .having the real thing sitting there staring you in the face.
But really they are itty bitty little pin pricks.
Once you start you'll sail, up and over the rough waves and coasting along on the smooth ones, just watch out for the undertow. Just kidding. You'll do fine.
Think Peace,                    OH
