Migraines & Cirrohsis

What pain killers for migraines/headaches are most appropriate for those suffering hcv cirrohsis? I get these blinding headaches at times that can last 3 days and am unsure what chemicals provide minimal impact on the liver?

Have you done any reading on migraine triggers? Caffeine gives me a lot of problems with migraine, there are many other triggers. Google it up, may help you avoid some. Yesterday I read that ginger may help to prevent migraines.

"- anything nature based has to be better than man made"

I think that's a dangerous assumption. For an obvious contrast, arsenic is natually occurring, lactulose is not. Say what you will about the nasty farts that lactulose foments, it's still gotta be better than arsenic, right? Devils Cap mushrooms are natural, and they'll do in your liver quicker than Oprah on a porkchop.

Hi I also have chirrosis and I have COPD too(Cronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disorder) My doctor gives me 800 mil Iboprofen now I know theres no asperin in it, and it does help if i get a headache, I don't get them alot though, and my biggest complaint are my legs and knees, I also have osteoarthritus and was told 5 yr's ago I needed a double knee replacement and I didn't have Chirrosis then I WISH I had done it, now up and down both legs is so painful I drive a medical scooter everywhere!! I have a car but for small trips I use the scooter. How long have you been sick? I found I had Hep C back in the 90's and 5yr's for the Chirrosis, I tried the Interferon and Riberviron and was a non-responder 2 times, I now have an appt. with another doctor, I feel so hopeless at times, I am very depressed.

Yes, I thought Tylenol; was a no no. I'll see what the Dr says about opiate based pain killers or derivatives - anything nature based has to be better than man made. Thanks to all for your input, first migraine I've gone through without medication - probably will just tough it out in future.

I'm cirrhotic and am allowed up to 2000 mg of tylenol a day (that's 2 extra strengths twice a day.  I came across some guidelines on allowed drugs while on TX when I was first diagnosed.  Think it may have been on the Janis and freinds site.

Tylenol should be fine in moderation. But I guess it might depend on the degree of cirrhosis.

As tulsatime suggested.....I think it will be wise if you check with your Doctor or even your pharmacist.
All the best and I hope those headaches subside for you........

Sorry no one has come by with a good idea. I have cirrhosis but I don't have migraines, It is hard for me to just throw something out there. I myself and so scared to take any drugs, fear of liver problems. When I had a problem with my shoulder my Dr gave me morphine tablets, cause I was scared to take anything with tylenol in it like loritab or some things like that, but the morphine made me feel sick so I suffered though the pain and took nothing. Ask your Dr what is liver friendly. Good luck, sorry I wasn't much help.
