More bad news or what?????

Recently I went for my annual with my gyno.We discussed my condition and  what my plans were for tx.She did routine tests and sent me for a bone density test.On friday her office called me and they said she needed to see me to discuss the results of these tests.I am petrified now because she told me bad news a  year ago.I dont know what to think and I am a nervous wreck.I think if everything was ok she would just phone me.I am taking my husband with me cindy

Maybe I am over reacting and hope that I am.I dont want more bad news...

I'm just not real sure about these bone drugs unless you really need em, you have to keep taking them.  I definitely have osteopenia, but I'm going to take D, Calc, Mag and see what happens.

I just saw your post. I'm glad it turned out to not be as bad as you thought it might be.

I'm going for a bone density test tomorrow. This is the first time it has been mentioned to me and I'm 56. The doctor asked me why I'd never had one before... I said that it had never been mentioned... she's done my last 6 pap smears (yearly) and I had another gyno where I used to live that I went to yearly........ never mentioned it to me. I always thought it was because I'm not real thin.

as u probably know bone loss can be debilitating. you should get a detailed report of your bone density and then the advice of a physician who specializes in this. do your homework on the various drugs their side effects and interaction. then do homework on calcium supplements and their absorption and find out what time of day to take. same for vitamin d. this is kinda complicated so it will take a bit of research. Osteopenia is early bone loss and may or may not require medication if u take proper calcium supplements or in diet. in addition weight bearing exercise is important. if mom, aunt grandma or sis have osteo. u are more likely to get it. best of luck, babs

It all depends what your results are but "some bone loss" does not sound horrific.
I would also take vit D....
some of those bone loss meds do not leave the body, and can create more porous, brittle bone, I'm no expert, but some bone loss is part of aging.
If you were 80 OK,

i used to be a worrier. in recent years i have found it to be a huge waste of energy. almost nothing i worried about was worthy of it. besides hcv i have had breast ca. none of the worrying is likely to be helpful . try to be calm and wait to be frightened or til the plane is filled with smoke or til u have been given less than a year to live is my motto. we really are quite resilient and can bounce back after set backs. i agree she probably wants to up you vitamin d or talk about bone density or thyroid. dont waste precious time being anxious. enjoy life if u can. take one day at a time. u can always worry tomorrow! good luck, babs824

I believe you meant "osteopenia."  (At first I thought you were responding to Goofy!)  Anyway, I too have heard mixed reports of the bone drugs.

Weight lifting, or any stressing excercise, (when able) is a great way to maintain bone density regardless of the aging process (much of which isn't necessarily so.)

even if they say you have osteopenie and not osteoporosis take the time to look into it further, those drugs are really for last stitch measures.   Let us know.

"When I was dx w/ breast cancer they did not beat around the bush"

Smart doctors.

I'm no expert, but I don't think things are likely to go too far wrong with a bone density test. If there are problems, it's more likely you'll be instructed to take measures to prevent further loss of density over the long haul. Try not to worry - it doesn't sound like a train wreck on the horizon from here.

Cindy, dont worry, just go see what she has to say, they are always doing those bone density's.  I'm not so sure about the drugs at your age.  sometimes just vit d and calcium can help.
what are we supposed to be 20 forever?
I would think if it were BAD, they would have said something.  When I was dx w/ breast cancer they did not beat around the bush on the phone.
remember worrying does no good, it does not change the results and not worth the added stress, we all worry, but just try to remember.
Good Luck,
Mary
