New Year thoughts

We are approaching the new year and the contrast with last year shows an enormous difference to me.  Last year I was treating, and the approach of the new year was meaningless.  Nothing would change on 1/1 - I would still take my shot and pills and each day would pass with quiet desperation.  I was not able to see the new year as a demarcation of anything at all.

Now I am done with treatment and sometimes think of the New Year celebration as silly, since it is a date that mostly has mechanical definitions for taxes and other legal junk.  But it does give us a reference for events and humans are mostly optimistic beings, so we hope for a better future.

Well 2008 brought me a gift beyond my wildest expectations - good health.  Most people my age are planning their retirement and heading for a more sedentary life.  Well - I received this gift and feel that I need to do something with it.  I am getting increasingly more active physically and looking at options: take more photographs, write a book, get a job or perhaps volunteer for some charity that I believe in.

People that have been sick have a great appreciation of good health and after twenty years of fighting HCV, I feel truly blessed now that it is gone.  I know that I will do something with the rest of my life.  Nothing grand in the great scheme of things, but something meaningful to me.

I wish everyone good health in 2009.

Eric

Very nice Eric =)

When I look back over this past year and my own personal grand scheme theme of things for 2008 there is something that had a great impact on me.  That impact is you.

Learning your story, counting on you for advice and now watching you enjoy your new healthy life gives me so much hope for the same thing for myself.

I wish you the best in Life Part 2!

Happy Holidays to you and Mafalda

What a wonderful post, thank you.  And who knows, what is meaningful to you may also have great impact on others.  Remember the butterfly effect?  If it simply makes YOU happy then that is already having an impact on others - happiness in contagious after all!

I also wish you the very best for the festive season and the coming year!  Forward!!
