So the good news is that you have found this forum. The information here will be valuable while on treatment. Sounds like you are willing to put up a good fight. Being aggressive with any side effects will help you stay on course; and plenty of experience on these pages. You can also look at older conversations, by plugging in your topic. I learned a lot by reading others questions, and the many responses.
You'll make it, stay positive,

Well, the good news is, you are at a good age, for a successful Treatment. Also your son is at a good age, for you to be in Treatment.
I waited until my sons' were ages 10 and 12 yrs, before I went into treatment, as I find this age fairly easy, in alot of ways.
But I also waited until I was age 49 yrs, and by that time, I was feeling much older than i did at 40 yrs.
Hep C can be cured, and you can do this!

My son is the only thing that has kept me going for the past few years anyhow!  Now this ****, he's my motivation to be better at everything!  My health #1, I love him with every ounce of being in my soul. I'll live and get through this for myself and for me to be a better mother for him:) I have a purpose, not just to be a great mother, but friend, Aunt, sister, ect... this crap doesn't define me nor control me. Just waiting on the call for the pre trials to begin, praying for February!!! Still waiting on viral load, patiently waiting!!!

Congrats on UND! You have landed in a soft spot. Don't hold it in. We've all been there. You sound like you have a strong spirit and that's half the battle. Aren't our kids are great motivations? Karen:)

I went through the same emotions as you did. I was exposed when I had a blood transfusion in child birth after I hemorraged. I have had it for 39 years and not known. The news brought me to my knees. I woke up in the night thinking my heart was going to come through my chest. I have 10 weeks left. I was und @ 4 and 12 weeks. I have had all the side effects. Did not think I could do it but I did and so can you! Everybody here will help you. The people here are amazing and have good info on everything you may or MAY NOT go through. Take it one day at a time and realize this is only temp. It has an end. Good luck and God Bless

Thanks for the encouraging words. I guess I'm still trying to wrap my head around the entire ordeal. The before and after ect... trying to prepare my mind body and spirit for the best. Let along my 12 year old son whom I raise alone. It's a little ruff at the moment but I know it will get better!!!!

It can really be frustrating, getting prepared for treatment. I remember that feeling; one more thing on the to-do list, and then another. So, slow down and breathe. There are some things we can not control. In the long run, the preparation for tx. Is important.

I got the colonoscopy done.
I had yearly pelvic.
Liver sonogram, check.
Oops, mass found, another sonogram ( uterine fibroids)
Fibrosure test.
Oh, and the mammogram.

Making sure the body, as well as the mind, are fit. Good doctors are paying attention to your overall health, before you start these heavy meds.

As time moves on, the initial shock of what you are up against wanes.
Hang in there, hang tough. And best wishes to you.

There's nothing fair about getting HCV and knowing what it will take to undergo treatment.  Finding out and preparing yourself for this challenge can be a rollercoaster of emotions.  Once you begin trt your focus will change and it will be a matter of managing the side effects and getting yourself to the finish line.  Being pissed off won't help, so try to purge those feeling and realize you have a challenge to prepare for and put on your game face.  If depression is a reality prior to beginning trt, then discuss AD's with your doctor very soon.  It will likely get worse once treatment begins.

I think it's really shocking to get those results, but you've been diagnosed at such a good time.  The odds of being able to rid yourself of the virus are so much better than they've ever been.  Connect with a good hepatologist, get more info about the state of your liver, etc., then you can decide whether or not you need to treat right away.  If you do, then there some good treatment available, and if you can wait, there are even better ones a few years out.  Don't panic, breathe, and get as much information as you can.

Treatment is difficult and many do get depressed on treatment (from the drugs).

If you are depressed or getting depressed, talk with your doctor about getting on an antidepressant. Many of us took antidepressants during treatment.

I used antidepressants during treatment and never got depressed at all.

I agree and completely understand.  Yes, it does stink, all of it!  Try to remember why you're doing this:  your health, your future, the people you love, the people who love you.  It helps to keep your eye on these things every day.  As for the depression, are you taking an A/D?  My husband definitely needed one throughout tx.  I know there are some who manage without, but you need to discuss with your doctor ASAP.  If you're not on an A/D, perhaps you can get on one, if you are, perhaps you need the dosage adjusted.  Visit here regularly and get the support you need.  Oh, and you'll hate me for this, but if you can get outside and walk (even for 10 minutes) it will help, I promise.  Please keep us updated.
