Pneumonia, posted both sides as see more posting here.

Hi all, sorry haven't been posting much, or reading much. I notice a LOT 'missing' here' ??

In ER Monday. Attending Dr. did cat scan, found pneumonia, feel's immune system not so good yet (as I figured) , also may have stomach virus (more vomiting than on any of tx) wanted me back today but didn't want to do the ER thing again :(   If not better, keeping me there :( :(
The compromised  immune is why I am more concerned with this, 2nd time I've had in 2 years. May go to Shands tomorrow, than their all off to Italy for study seminar. AT  ER they did fluids, meds, pain shot, etc. Xray, it didn't show, cat scan it did.
Came home with Z-pack-Azithromycin, the 5 day whammy antibiotic. 5th day is tomorrow, not feeling much better so........
Should I get set up with more antibiotics? Is a vaporizer a yes or no with pneumonia? (think yes?) Any other tips to keep this from getting worse?
Yes, smoking is out, getting nic gum. I'm going to try to quit for good thru this. (look out all around me, lol.)

Hope all are hanging in there, Thanks , LL

Lauri girl,

Don't wait until "next year" to get the pneumonia vaccine.  Do it as soon as Doc Nelson says it's "o.k."  they are not an annual vaccine like the flu vaccine.  You can get them any time of year.  Just m ake sure you get a booster every 5 years.

Missy
P.S.  Other than not being able to breath from my hgb, riba rash on my face, cracking in the corners of my mouth, nausea a few times a week, and my shedding head of hair, I feel not too bad LOL.  Seriously, I'm doing pretty dern good for a hepper on tx.

Onderwoman...... love the name :)
.....You & I are the same age and I love reading all your Q n A's......
Awwww, thanks.
Shands, tx Dr. taking over, will get pulminary, all the best there. Your right, getting 'out there' amongst people and germs did me no good.Think the thing with pneumonia is WHICH one, viral, bacterial, etc. The ER doc was good, very aware on the immune being low. She was more worried about a blood clot in the lung with the pain  (OHHHH!) so did the cat scan.Have you heard of the Nebulizer with med in it, as in the puff a couple times one?
Back to bed, home :(
I miss my bike...AGAIN !
Thanks fellow Ca. rider chick :)

Xenigma.....I'm so vicks'd up! Have some cool chinese 'cupping' tools that you vicks up, suction them and rotate on back. Feels great too! Every night since last Mon. I cover in Vicks, plug in tha vaporizer and sweat thru 2 sets of jama's. Which is good. Think your right on the antibiotics taking awhile. But I'm soooooo tired of 'resting',lol.
Really glad to hear you took a trip (and can in week 34!!) and how good it was for you. Can't believe your working every day. That is great, tho I'm sure not always so easy. Your doing 48 weeks , right? The last half was more like....endless!! You've done GREAT!
Thanks for the thoughts

Hi ya girl, think of you a lot, just haven't been shouting down at ya' lately :)

Think my mistake was going back to the one job, 100's hugging me, etc. so soon (soon, yeah, uh okay!) Got a bug, bug got bigger :) Really getting tired of 'bugs, critters' , ya know? Did not even know they had a pneumonia vaccine?! Shands is taking over on this, going in Monday. They are all (& our Doc)  in Italy next week!! (wanted me there Friday) but already got my ER hosp. records last week. Doing labs-another Dr. for this app. Will see him when he's back or in May if this is gone then.
Doing a VL since I'll be there :)

Week 19 !!! How you feeling? Despite the Aranesp. Your so tough!! You should be on a big ol screaming eagle bad girl bike :), only right now with training wheels, lol.

One good thing out of this, got the cat scan (with iodine) I was always so afraid of done. I was on drugs :) Looked good other than pneumonia of course.

You take good care, keep drudging thru.

Pnenomia is rough on a somewhat healthy person......with you just coming off tx and all you must be having a terrible time of it.  I hope you kick its butt and feel better real soon. It's a good idea to get the vaccine when you're healthy enough...once you've had it its easy to get it again. I've had pnemonia twice one year after the other until I got the vaccine and havn't had it since...oops I'm over due for the booster though.

good luck to you!

That's not good! But it is good that it may be the last straw to quiting. It's hard at first but like tx we do get through it and we feel soooo much better when we're on the other side.

On the vaporizer - I started tx 2 wks ago and have that hacky cough - the vaporizer made it much worse - felt like my lungs were full of water. I just pack on the vicks like Xenigma says. But I've never had pneumonia so can';t speak for that.

Hope you feel better real soon and are out there blazing trails real soon.

Sorry you're so sick!  Definitely lay off the cigs.  I had pneumonia before, so I know how bad you're feeling.  I was smoking at that time and I had to quit then, too.    Whenever you've gotten well, you should definitely get the pneumonia shot.  I had one and I also always get a flu shot.

Take care,

Susan

Hey Lady  :-))
I had pneumonia many years ago and it takes awhile even after the antibiotics are done.
Just keep coughing and moving that $hit around.  I know you must be exhausted.
Just coming off tx and now this.  Girl, you need rest, try not to smoke too much,
a puff here and there if you are "jonesing" real bad, and moisture (shower-steam)
Vicks on your chest is good too. (even with a warm washcloth over the vicks on your chest.
You've been through so much the past 8 months or so that I really think rest is what you need right now.
You will feel better soon, it will take awhile.

I just did shot #34, it's getting hard for me now.  I still work daily and just took a plane up to Boston last weekend for a break from south florida & tx thoughts. I want to get to the finish line real bad now and it seems this last half is taking forever. It really did me good to get away for a few days.
The weather was very cold and rainy but I bundled up and had a good time. (My psoriasis is worse now from going from the cold to the warm but I think it was worth  it)
Take care of yourself and you will feel better soon....

Hi,
You & I are the same age and I love reading all your Q n A's.
Pneumonia is not a lightly treatable thing.
Please go see a pulmonary specialist if you can.
The lack of immune system fighters gives ANY virus a bigger E ticket ride through out your system than the normal healthy person.
My hubby let his Bronchial and lung problem go unchecked properly and he wound up in the hosp for 5 days with 3 breathing treatments daily and still doing home Nebulizer breathing treatments 2 x's a day about 8 minutes each. (this was 12/07).
The ER docs are trained to know a little about alot.
Specialist know the details of a specific persons health problem and will zero in on it like an arrow on a target.
Having a compromised immune system just makes all the other BS that is passed around in the air or touching that much more dangerous for you.
Be good to yourself lady!
You wanna ride again dont you LL?

Good thoughts from a So Cal rider chix.

Lauri Girl ...

Watcha doing to yourself young lady!  Yes, use the vaporizer.  Also, have you ever had the pneumonia vaccine?  I've had it and the 5 year booster and it was the smartest thing I ever did.  Once you get pneumonia you are prone to getting it a gain.  After having pneumona 3 years in a row I finally wise up and go the vaccine.

Good luck on the smoking cessation.  It can be done girl I promise!

When do you see "our" good Doc Nelson again?

Missy(Mouse)
P.S.  I'm 19 weeks into tx now, starting on Aranesp for my red cells as soon as insurance gives Walgreens the go ahead to fill.
