Feeling lousy.....

I'm sort of bummed that I have to be sick again, right at Christmas.  I've been on antibiotics and ear drops since last Tues, for an ear infection/sinus congestion thing that started over Thanksgiving.  I'm on Cipro for it, but I don't seem to be improving any.  I'm wondered it my immune system is not bounced back enough since the last TX in July, 5 mon. ago.    I have so much I need to get done and be there for other people and here I am sick again.  I sucks I think.  My doctor who saw me last week from my ear infection, is out on maturity leave because his wife is having a scheduled C-section sometime in the 1st 3 weeks of Dec.  He had given me drops for it, too, but it just doesn't seems to be helping the pain that much.  I feels like to me, like my face is all puffy and that who side of my face where I'm having the ear pain hurts down into the gland below it, up into the ear, behind the ear and down around my neck.  I'm just so aggravated at the timing of this thing!!!    If it continues past Tues.,  I'll have see if he has some one covering for him that can see me and maybe give me something stronger.  I don't know how all these antibiotics effect the liver?  Susan

Thanks everybody.  I'm trying not to dwell on it too much!  It's hard when the ear is hurting alot.  I take the last Cipro tomorrow.  Lauri, the Dr. who is treating this is the Internal Medicine doctor, not the G.I. doctor.  I actually like my G.I. doctor.  I just think that he realizes that I need to be in the care of the hepatologist now, but he can only do so much for me and that I need the expertise of a Mayo's, or a Shands.  He will still order the ultrasounds and labs and see me at the 3 mon. appt.'s, at least until he decides he's ready to retire.  Anyhow, my Internal Medicine doctor is out of the office until after Christmas because his wife is supposed to be having their baby sometime during this next 3 wks or so.    I suppose if it gets to bothering me too much, I'll have to go to a walk-in clinic.  Once again, I thank everybody for their kind responses.  I did notice that lots of people seem to have sinus/ear problems on here.

Feel better soon. I also wish I could make it happen instead of saying it.

This too shall pass. :}

Susan - I wish I could offer more than just saying hope you're feeling better soon!

My sinuses are screwy too and as I've gotten a little older there are several things I've become allergic to.

So cheer up - we both may have screwy sinuses, but I just lost 1/4 carat diamond pendant down the bathroom sink too !!

I'm just getting over a sinus infection, too and have been on bactrin the past 2 weeks.
but i have a 2 decades long chronic condition, sinus surgery (didn't work) injections in the turbinates, (didn't work) allergy shots (do seem to help) antihistamines, guaffinisin, nasal sprays, blahblahblah the whole nine yards, not to mention taking out half of an eardrum with a q-tip about 10 years ago.

I always chalked up these conditions to over-exposure to hundreds of kids in the school system combined with my bad luck as it seems almost everyone has at least 1 chronic condition.

but I think Lonestar is on to something when she says an awful lot of people on TX seem to have sinus problems and i've begun to wonder if that hasn't been a hep-c sx all along.

What does everyone else think?

btw - susan, hope you feel better soon.

Good morning Susan, Like you haven't been through enough, huh?  Cipro is quite a powerful antibiotic and I'm thinking maybe LadyBug is right and that you are trying to fight another nasty virus with an antibiotic that's never going to work.  If she's right the fact that many doctor's over prescribe antibiotics rendering many infections immune to their effects makes it case once again.  I'm sorry you're battling this so near Christmas.  Doesn't it seem so many of us battling hep c have also suffered sinus and ear problems?  I hadn't been aware of this until DoubleDose posted something about it and then I started watching and reading and he's right, many here have posted these problems.  I don't have a solution but I think Grandma may have come up with something you could try.  I'd also see another doctor.  Feel better soon.

Hi Susan. Haven't been online much at all past few weeks. TRYING to work (home, out a bit) and have had a lot of company.
You'd (tried :} to mention your ear at breakfast. Didn't realize that painful. Sorry :(
Do agree with GrammaA, garlic helps much and also agree with a different Dr. In what you've said a few times on him, I worry you need another one ??? (is it the same one we talked about handling your hep.?) Dperrys right to....a Zpac!
You do have 3 weeks till Christmas so hopefully will feel better. Try the ol' hair dryer into the ear when it's hurting (on low heat!). Some even put a garlic clove in the ear!!

Feel better. If not you want to borrow my 'Bah Hum Bug' shirt :} ?

Sorry you are feeling so bad.  I know it sucks to be sick during the holidays.    I ususally get some kind of sinus problem, and have even had pneumonia twice during the holidays.   So trying to stay away from others that are sick.   The infection I had is gone, but my feet are still swelling, so I am going to the dr this week.. calling this morning for an appt.    I hope you feel better, and maybe a ZPak would do the trick.    I still have some phlem from the Riba, but not as bad as it was, hopefully that soon will go away.   I have had it since starting treatment.    And I am done now.   Make sure you call the doctor today.. infections are not something you want to mess with.

Yes it stinks that you feel so lousy. I agree with Child, maybe you need a different antibiotic.
I once had a sinus and ear infection that took forever to clear, and the doctor said it was probably a virus and not a bacterial infection.
Here's a helpful website on antibiotics and the effect on the liver:http://allonhealth.com/liver-cleanse/antibiotocs-liver.htm
This site has been posted here before, I'm not sure of the validity.

This one will scare you against Cipro, but I don't believe everything I read.
Make sure the Dr. filling in for your dr. knows your history...
Hoep you feel better soon!
Get well hugs,

I'm sorry you aren't feeling well and have an infection. You can take aged garlic for it and also golden seal (only take it for 2 weeks on and 2 weeks off), it's very strong. They are all OK for the liver even the Cipro. I sure hope you feel better. Take good care.
