Back from Denial

Well, I started here about a month ago and then went into denial. Anyway, I just changed from my Infectionist Disease Specialist to a GI at the advice of the group. I will see him for the first time on Dec 5th. My 1st doctor kinda scared me when he came into the room with a book where he was looking up something about the Hep C. That wasn't good. Then on the next visit, he said that he didn't know whether he should treat me or not and needed to run my case by a colleague. He thinks that I'm acute but not really sure. I just wasn't feeling him, so found a specialist.

As a reminder, I was dx in Sept as part of annual physical. I have genotype 1a and I am expereincing some symptoms. I'l looking forward to seeing GI -- it's a group out of UCLA.

o.k. now i'm totally confused..you can't drive to alaska onthe thruway-all those exits are closed for repair...cuz Da unions ain't in no big hurry-ya gotta problem wid that??....so whose having leftovers today?

I did the exact opposite; DX in Nivember 2006, started TX Xmas Eve of that same December,

My Dr, got my attention when I asked why I should start treating now and his response was, "How long do you want to live?"

I admit I wasn't at all happy with his answer but in retrospect i think it was the kick in the butt I needed.  I figured he wouldn't have made that very harsh comment without good reason.

So I decided to try and if I still wasn't comfortable with him I'd switch Doctors.

Instead it turns out he's been great for me.
The first Dr. did the right thing, IMHO, by admitting he wasn't sure of how to proceed with your case.  And I agreeit is absolutely essential to try and find a competent Dr. with who you are sympatico.

If that fails, competence will do.
