Where's your perspective?

A devotional from Mr. Charles R. Swindoll was sent across my mailbox today which contained a couple of thoughts which I found encapsulate the perspective I have tried to embrace since being diagnosed, attempting treatment, finding out the treatment failed me, and receiving a report last Wednesday that the very treatment which was supposed to help me may have resulted in me now having a diabetic condition.

The following are those thoughts which I would like to share with all of you:

I too would like to thank you folks for your kind words and thoughts.  After having tx fail me, I found I needed to step back and focus more on putting it behind me and putting more attention towards my family.  After 10 months of recovery followed by 10 months of HCV treatment, I felt I needed to put more attention towards them.  When coupled with work, helping  a Recovery church which started a few months ago, getting involved with a Compassion Center, and some of the other areas I'm trying to help in, it has left me with precious little time for much else.

Now as of last week I find myself in need of embarking on another journy to try and locate a competent doctor to help with my possible diabetes condition and again feeling frustrated at how difficult it can be at times.  I must say though that it has opened my eyes as to how fortunate we are to have such active forums as these for folks with HCV to turn too.  It seems the same can not be said for some of the others I've tried to turn to but is a common trait found on nearly all HCV forums I've seen.

I've try to stay current by scanning these forums, which were a lifeline during my trial of tx, and not posted much to this one in recent months as I've found to hard to keep up with both forums.  I think I've placed more attention to the other forum and posted there more frequently to share what I experienced and learned during my tx trial with those who are searching for answers.

Sometimes one needs a bit of a break and to let others help the newer folks entering or risk suffering burnout from answering the same questions over and over again as each comes with the same fears, questions, and concerns.  Again, we are so fortunate in that it seems our disease appears to be as unique in drawing us together as it is to suffer from compared to many others out there.

It is my in my prayers that it does not become so common place as others so that folks fail to come together to openly share and support one another.

Your welcome.

I am definitely not one that communicates well through written word. I see that I am constantly and consistantly misunderstood, so I am probably the only one that understood what I originally wrote. lol

I communicate much better when having conversation with someone, so I can understand why you questioned what I wrote. I'm glad you did though incase someone else wondered the meaning of what I said.

Take care.

GO: Ah, one can often change perspective by simply looking at things from a different angle. Is the glass half empty or half full? We are given so many chances to learn more about ourselves. I have had to re-examine many of my own beleifs through this disease. Thank you for encouraging us to think.

MO: I don't understand the idea that God wants us to mourn death. Death is as natural as life, its part of the cycle. Some religions celebrate death as a relief from earthly suffering. Everything that lives will die, be it a flower or a sentinent being. We mourn for ourselves, our loss. The dead don't care if we mourn.  Anyway thats my thought.

Its not as if God wants us to focus on something that makes us feel down or whatever, but if one doesn't mourn (or let it out) it can and will be very hard for a person to heal. The people mourned the death of Moses and then moved on.

I think we all know someone who is afraid to let their feelings out and most of us have seen the damage that that can cause emotionally and actually can cause physical problems too.

When you said the dead don't care if we mourn, you are absolutley right. Mourning is for the living as a release or a good bye lets say.

As a Christian I mourn the death of friends and loved ones, very hard to hold back the tears and why would I, but at the funerals we are also there to celebrate that persons life. That is very natural and healthy.

Beautiful, Grand Oak! Thanks so much for sharing this profound wisdom!

I think we try to go through life taking care of everything by ourselves, and being "independent" and "strong."

It's when you're knocked down that you're amazed by the number of people sent by God, to reach down and give you a hand back up.
We resist at first, but when we accept help and realize that others are blessed when they do God's will, we finally understand why we're here. God wants us to help and support each other!! That's when we can finally rest and have peace about our circumstances.

I've always loved Chuck Swindoll...he's such an inspiration!!
