I just started obedience with my German Shepherd. He is bad / not biting / just jumping and he is a big boy. When he jumps up his paws rest on my shoulders and I can look him eye to eye. I might take 2 or 3 sets of classes, have to get him ready for his BH.....German obedience title.
Hubby won't let any of the on the bed let alone upstairs where the bedrooms are. hahhah we will see with this boy. his name is Blitz von der Jagers-Tal. Jagers-Tal means Hunters Valley
I have two dogs. I pet them, they sleep on the bed. I have not changed my interaction with them. I'm in week 22 of tx I have not gotten sick. FWIW.
Great, I have been working with my little one ( pug/mix) to not lick so much and to not jump. She had the bad habit of walking all over people if they are laying down., so that is all a good thing. This morning I woke up to this tiny little tongue laying a little kiss on my face, I guess one kiss wont hurt, oh so cute, My big dog, ( 18 ) just lays on her bed next to my bed,
I will try to be better about washing my hands, starting practice today.
I wash frequently, but when I get busy I just zoom along.
thanks guys/gals, remember to be in the moment. we plan so much and may miss that crucial moment.
love, Mary
May all beings be free from suffering.
I hadn't thought of the anti-viral actually HELPING with anything else, lol. I'm ever so slightly reassured.
I wash my hands a lot and try not to let my niece's dog jump up and stick his tongue in my mouth too often. Ick. My own little Peanut is way too small to do that!
Ribavirin is anti viral, Interferon is a BRM.
Ribavirin is used with another medication called an interferon to treat hepatitis C. Ribavirin is in a class of antiviral medications called nucleoside analogues. It works by stopping the virus that causes hepatitis C from spreading inside the body. It is not known if treatment that includes ribavirin and another medication cures hepatitis C infection, prevents liver damage that may be caused by hepatitis C, or prevents the spread of hepatitis C to other people.
How this drug works:
PEG Interferon alfa-2b is interferon alfa-2b with a substance called polyethylene glycol (PEG) attached to it. The attachment process is called pegylation, and is used to allow active substances (the interferon alfa-2b) to stay in the body longer before they are broken down and eliminated.
Interferon alfa-2b belongs to the category of therapies called biologic response modifiers (BRM), also called immunotherapy. This is a type of treatment that mobilizes the body's immune system to fight cancer. The therapy mainly consists of stimulating the immune system to help it do its job more effectively.
Interferon alfa-2b is part of a family of proteins called cytokines. Cytokines act primarily by communicating between the various cells of the body's immune system.
Interferon alfa-2b interacts with receptors on the surface of cells. There are several ways that interferon alfa-2b fights cancer; directly by interfering with the cancer cells ability to divide, and indirectly by modifying the bodies response to the cancer cells.
GSDgirl - you are right; I was quite paranoid about infection - I did still touch the animals, but wore gloves for any clean-ups.
Mary4Now - we're all really different on the meds. When I did them in 1991 they had far less effect on my immune system, and my immune system was a lot healthier. The peg is 'anti-viral' so, from what I'd read here, you're unlikely to pick up a virus and it can actually offers some protection from viruses. Just normal sanitation protocol for bacterial infections, like washing hands often.
I (even now) would rather touch my animals than things that many people have touched, but I guess that is just me :-}
Mary, I have 6 dogs and one pees on her blankets......I also have 2 horses, 1 pony and chickens which are filthy animals, those I don't get too close to......Good Luck
So, during treatment do the drugs lower your immune system? It sounds like if the WBC count is low than you are more susceptible to infection / etc.
I'm not even sure how the Peg & Riba actually work. If anyone wants to take the time to educate me please assis otherwise I will get what info I can from the center.
I too dont think I will have access to rescue drugs from the study. So I"m trying to find a primary that doesn't cost a fortune. I found one doc who doesn't take insurance and claims to have reasonable rates. His rates are $75.00 for 15 minutes and the first session is an hour. I'm wondering what exactly do I get for that?
Do animals pose a risk? I dont see how they could, mine are in the house or in the yard (doggie door) or they go for leash walks. I understand you were OCD and I tend to overreact.
I'm a tad nervous about all of this after all.
Mary
Best wishes for the bx on the 10th and well done on getting organised. I was so 'germ conscious' during tx that I hardly went near our animals (my HVC was reasonably advanced, and my neuts and WBC were low with no rescue meds available, so I was virtually obsessive/compulsive).
Hope it all goes well.
