Smoking Marijuana Raises Fibrosis Risk in Patients With Chronic Hepatitis C Infection

In chronic hepatitis C infection, there is a strong relationship between daily cannabis use and fibrosis progression rate," Dr. Mallat said. "Patients with ongoing chronic hepatitis C should be advised against daily cannabis use, since regular use over the span of the disease is an aggravating factor regarding fibrosis progression."

I have read a statistic somewhere that one joint of pot is = to 5 tobacco cigarettes.   I paid attention to that statistic being as in my past, I smoked a lot of reefer and cigs, too.  In high school (it's amazing that I graduated), I smoked 5 joints a day in addition to cigs.  Then, when I was 34 and having a lot of wheezing problems, my doctor did a breathing test on my lungs and he told me that I was testing as having the lungs of a 70 year old.  That scared me enough to give up cigs for good.  The was 13 years ago.  It's been about 24 yrs since I've smoked the pot.

that's the way to go....... "f***y liver"

You've got to be careful though about mentioning something like that or someone will repeat the premise and that they "read it on the internet".  ; )

Yeah; go ahead and laugh.  If you were up here you'd be making a "surprise" snow angel.  ; )  Due to last nights ice storm you might get up 8 feet from where ya set down however.......

We *just love it* here.  : )

Last year I used a concrete roto-hammer to clear the 9 inch ice ruts from my drive.  It was impossible for anything but 4 wheel drives (and even then it was sketchy)

Who can blame people who resort to ....whatever they resort to.  : )  ; )

Think I'll go salt my wounds and my sidewalk.....

Right!!! ;)

LOL! I had to! Lazy Sunday morning !

Ahhh Willy, always the voice of reason ;)
Thanks for helpful input! It does help my sis more than any drug they offer for nausea & eating, her husband also (riddled with many illness's). So, also not being a user, I am totally for the use for it's medicinal purposes, which are well proven in some areas.

Well, I have to get going, it's chilly here today....78 !
Going riding. Oh I forgot! Your getting buried in snow right?

Evil I am!

LOL; what's the point of living???!!  Good thing that's NOT true.
Right????

This study if I remember was kinda flawed.  It didn't measure ONLY pot use.  The group that progressed also drank, so the study did assert that there was a difference in progression but DIDN'T differentiate between smokers and drinkers; they were in one group.  I would have thought that a smokers only trial would have been more "enlightening" and that means no tobacco smokers in the group to further skew results.  Never the less the results were presented at either EASL or AASLD and often referred to people who asked about pot use.  I'm not really for pot use.....I don't use..... but I think that it can be useful for depression, appetite during chemo, pain relief, or to generally ease TX (such as pain pills and anti-depresssants are used during TX).  IF I remember also they users may have smoked a LOT of pot.

I'd love to see a better study.  I'd like to see approval of medical use of marijuana.  Like I say; I'm not for it.  I'm against abusing it as I see some folks do.  I hate to see it's use restricted totally since it seems to help many people on TX.  I hope that further studies will bring into focus whether it is harmful, helpful, etc.  If you remember when the study came out there was another study presented at the same time that proved that pot smokers had a higher success rate with TX- it may have relieved symptoms and thereby improved compliance or reduced dose reductions.  Once again here there was not enough data to lay to rest and substantially "prove" pot was a good thing.  ; )

True, in it's pretty slow here these days (seems to me??)

Poor heppers tho. Can't drink, can't smoke! Next it'll be sex increase's fibrosis!

Just kidding, gave up pot yrs. ago. My brother in law tho, that just got dx'd with hep C(another missed dx thru yrs. of Dr.s!!) & is an avid pot smoker, with my sis on chemo.
His liver damage is nill, like a 1-2! And he drank for yrs!

Just say NO!!  :)

Well Michael another thread is another thread after all - the forum would probably go out of business without old news and toothpaste threads.

At least it had something to do with hep and being social......that was a good try. And it could have gone on the hep side......so that's progress!
