so is 72 week of tx and extended tx dead?

Saw Nygirls post on the otherside and didn't want to go off topic, so thought I'd start a thread here.
72 weeks of extended treatment, -gosh it's been a long time since I can remember it being discussed here on MH as a possible path to svr.
What a change a few years makes, eh? Hopefully the future of treatment will become even more promising.
I have to admit, I don't believe I came through the 72 weeks unscathed. So let's rejoice in the new drugs and for those who get the access to them....yeaaa........;*) Pro

Maybe not quite dead yet... with all the questions still surrounding PIs (viral resistance, CC genotypes, etc) combined with the variables of patient access and physician familiarity it may be the 'default' standard for those who do not get PIs right off the bat.

Wondered if I should add my husband to the 72 weeks list, but he doesn't seem to fit the *intent* of the thread...

Thats the whole idea, to get people shorter treatment times AND no SOC, but who knows when that will come.
the new HIV drugs are phenomenol, they can penetrate the DNA, and clip off the receptors the HIV attaches too.  using zinc finger technology.  (something like that )
our bodies have become the battlefields...... sort of.

That is funny.  I remember when I sent it to you.  I think willing sent it to me.  Those were important papers back then weren't they.  Now I fear we will not have so much stroke with our doctors.  Untl there are more studys done with the PIs,  I think we will be stuck with whatever the new labeling is on the TEL and BOC and won't be able to convince our doctors to modify treatment.  This next year will be very interesting.  I am all for the possiblity of a shorter treatment.  That is for sure.

nygirl - It appears there may be a lot of people doing SOC without PI.  I am very interested in what all the doctors will do in the coming months.

Yup long rest the 72 week nightmare!!!!!!!!! I agree it's old school now........but then I'm pretty old school round here too so it makes sense. Wow in just that many years it's come so far Boce wasn't even a mention back when I started six years ago and look at now!

Long live the 72 weeks adios!!!!

Berg will still apply IF they try and have people do SOC without the PI for some reason. Gosh and it used to be so important to us but adios!!!!!!!!!!!

I was just thinking about the same thing myself recently, that 72 weeks is so "old school" now. Good grief, let's hope so!!! I appreciate that it got me an SVR, but I still tear up emotionally sometimes at the thought of it......

Cheers for the new meds and shorter tx!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hey Pro
I will have to look for the post on the other side but I do think 72 is dead.  In fact, I think I deleted the Berg study  PDF file off my computer last weekend.  Can you believe that?  I can't think of any reason to have to refer back to it again.  I think the rules have all changed.  But I do raise a toast to all you 72'ers.
