Dear Dr Dietrich

I am gen 1b, currently on Pegasys (35 weeks so far) and I cleared the virus since week 8.
I know that standard duration of treatment is considered to be 48 weeks for my genotype.
I read studies which indicate that there is no benefit of 48 weeks of treatment for early responders (clear at week 4) vs 24 weeks of treatment.
Since I responded by week 8, not as early as 4 weeks but certainly sooner than week 12, I want to know your opinion regarding a shorter treatment duration - for ex 36, or 40 weeks.

Thank you

Mircea

It is true that if you are truly virus negative by week 4, you may be able to stop earlier. However there is no data on 8 weeks. At this point you are over the hump and unless there are really compelling medical reasons to stop, I would continue to week 48. You have a lot invested in this treatment, so lets be sure that it works! Good luck!

Dear Dr Dietrich

Thank you for your answer. I have to agree with it even if I do not like it.

I just want to add that I am a Mt Sinai patient, and I am extremelly happy with the professional care received from your coleagues. This is certainly the place to be for somebody with this disease.
