Dear Dr.
I am looking for advise with regards to my husband. He is in the usa and can not get treatment for his hep c. he has sent me some medical records that were taken from December 2007. i can give you certain information that i understand pertain to this disease. I am looking to understand if he will 1- decompensate quickly or possibly and 2- how bad his liver is from reading test results - chances of liver transplant and timing.
he is genotype 3 - which is good from what i understand. his viral load is at about 700,000 or slightly higher, again i understand that isnt too bad. now keeping in mind this is pretty much all from december 2007. his plateletss are very low and have been now for over 3 years right now they are at about 75,000. but have been lower. his cbc is all off, whit blood cell 4.5 red blood cell 4.31 hemoglobin 12.4, it was 11.0 hematocrit 36.6 it was 32.4 he was put on lactucose for encelapathy. sorry about the spelling - disease of the brain. and his liver is always hurting. he has been told that is very sick and then been told he isnt. he has been told he cant get treatment - interferon due to the low platelets as it eats them while continuing tx. there should be something to take prior to interferon to raise the platelett count though.
i really need to know if he is ill. a very well know doctor online dr, ben cecil who has been conversing with me - has indicated from the records that i sent him, that he has severe liver damage.
he had a ruptured appendix and they couldnt operate due to the platelets being so low and the hep c so they inserted a t-tube for drainage, saying he was way too high risk for operation. and at that same time he was compensated.
please can you give me your medical advise and if need be i could and would surely email or fax or scan his medical records that i have for your perusal.
thank you so much doctor for you input and helping me to understand if he might be very ill.
Leslie
