Herpes Scare....Unsure what is going on with my body

Hey everyone, I'm new here but I'm experiencing what I can only call a crazy chain of events. It seems like several different things are happening all at once and I cant figure out what may have caused it. To start, about 3 weeks ago I was experiencing bladder infection symptoms so I began self treating with antibiotics which caused slight irritation in genital area. I also started self treating that with vaginal cream. Shortly after I received oral sex from my friend for the first time. In addition to getting over the irritation, he was quite rough during our encounter. He aggressively rubbed against my inner vaginal area and (for the lack of a better term) "sucked hard" on my clitoris.  Afterward I noticed that he had rubbed and irritated the skin. Prior to this I had shaved with a new razor and shaving cream and my skin is sensitive so it wasn't  a big deal to me. Thinking nothing of it I was a little sore but still continued on with my week. About 2 - 3 days later I noticed swelling in the inner area of my vagina and soreness with small cuts in the upper area near the clitoris. The swelling was causing pain during urination to the point that I didn't wasn't to use the bathroom. 2 more days passed and I began getting the feeling that I was sick. Long story short, I was admitted to the hospital for severe kidney infection (Pyelonephritis) which I was given an IV drip and antibiotics to reduce my fever (102.3). While there I had the Dr. examine my genital area in order to relive the pain. That is when I heard him say that the irritation appeared to be herpes and he was quite sure about it. From that moment I have been stressed and freaked out. He recommended that I follow up with my OBGYN to confirm. I was given medication for and kidney infection and Acyclovir 800mg 5 X daily.  However, before I could make my appointment the pain got worst I could barely walk and urination literally brought tears to my eyes so I went back to the emergency room. I noticed more swelling of the clitoris and vaginal opening additionally a few open cuts or ulcers where I had shaved prior. During this exam I was diagnosed with pelvic inflammatory disease and prescribed Metronidazole 500 mg 3X daily along with a dose that they gave me in the hospital because it was of bad. There was no mention of herpes during his exam. The following day of taking the medication the swelling and discomfort had improved significantly, the sores began clearing up by day two. I stopped taking the Acyclovir because after 3 - 4 days there was no change and the Metronidazole was the only thing helping. By the time I made it to my OBGYN the area was mostly cleared however what she was made her immediately say herpes and asked if my friend had a cold sore at the time. which he did not. So as of right now I'm awaiting results from the cultures that she took and the blood work. I'll be going back this week for the results but after reading many stories and information about herpes I'm completely freaked out. On the other hand the sores have been cleared up and everything is back to normal for several days now. If any on could help me figure something out I would be grateful. I'm confused as to why the Metronidazole worked instead of the Acyclovir?

sorry for such a long post  just really looking for some help. thanks

No doctor should ever give you a herpes diagnosis based on visual inspection alone. That is negligent. Let's see what you culture results are.

The odds are low that you would have caught herpes from your encounter, but not impossible. If I were in your shoes I would get an antibody blood test done immediately to see if you are already infected with hsv1 and don't know it like 50 percent of the population. If you were already infected, then I would doubt the doctors visual diagnosis even more.
