16 weeks pregnant with GH

Hello everyone. I have a question about taking Valtrex while pregnant. I went to the OB/GYN today at 16 weeks pregnant and asked for a valtrex refill. The dr informed me when you are pregnant you only take Valtrex from 36 weeks onward to prevent an OB at delivery. I have taken Valtrex a few times on different occasions in the past 16 weeks. Do you think I could have caused any harm to the baby? Also, what do I do if I happen to get an outbreak in the time leading up to 36 weeks?

Hi, in a study reported in the august 25 issue of the Journal of the American Medical Association, exposure to valtrex in the first trimester is not associated with an increased risk for major birth defects.
Any concerns about outbreaks leading up to the 36 week, just give your doc a call about whats best.

That's a very specialized question for an online website. In your best interests and those of the baby, please seek professional advice.

I would very much doubt that there is much risk at all, but do get to the bottom of it.
